Coronation Street Amy actress teases Aaron prison stint as star says she wants 'justice'

Coronation Street actress Elle Mulvaney says her character Amy Barlow will want “a sense of justice” following her horrifying rape ordeal.

On Friday night (March 3), Amy and Aaron Sandford (James Craven) shared an intimate night together but Amy will be left in a state of confusion and shock when she realises that she had non-consensual sex with him.

Talking about how she will deal with her heart-breaking situation, in a recent interview with Daily Star and other associated press, Elle said Amy wants Aaron to know what he’s done wrong.

She said: “I think Amy wants a sense of justice. Aaron admitting it is the main thing that she wants, but then if he gets a criminal charge as well, then that would mean that it’s been proven and he’s guilty.”

“Most importantly, Amy wants Aaron to know what he’s done is wrong, because in her head, the worries are: ‘Is he going to do this to somebody else? Has he already done this to Summer?’

“There’s lots of things going through her head,” she added.

When asked about how she felt about the storyline as a whole Elle admitted that she did find it tough.

She said: I felt like it was definitely going to be a challenge because when you get pitched something like this, you read it and you’re like ‘wow this is intense.’

“But then at the same time, that for me is why we do this job. This just shows that soaps even after 60 years we’re still just as relevant because this storyline is so relevant and so topical.”

She added: “And as awful as it sounds, I know so many people who have gone through something like this.

“This is not uncommon and I feel like it’s really interesting to delve into these grey areas to really talk about consent because yes Amy didn’t say ‘no’ but she didn’t say ‘yeah’ and it’s about looking at these indicators.”

According to Coronation Street spoilers, in upcoming scenes, Aaron will try to convince Amy that she agreed to having sex with him as he begs her to forget it never happened.

The harrowing incident will also effect Amy’s relationship with Summer Spellman who is in a turbulent relationship with Aaron.
