Coronation Street fans compare ITV soap to Happy Valley after dramatic robbery

Coronation Street fans couldn’t help but compare the ITV soap to Happy Valley after watching a dramatic armed robbery at the Viaduct Bistro.

During Monday’s visit to the Cobbles (February 6), viewers caught up with silver fox Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) after he stupidly agreed to work with known drug dealer Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths).

The pair have recently been in business after he agreed to take money from villainous Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) in order to fund the Bistro.

This week the restaurant owner took things one step further after he agreed to house an order of drugs in the back of his kitchen safe.

Despite being reassured by Damon that he had nothing to worry about, Nick was battling with the idea of harbouring illegal drugs in his restaurant.

And things took a turn for the worse when the bistro was bombarded by armed robbers who stormed through the restaurant screaming: “Where are the drugs”.

As the dramatic scenes unfolded, fans couldn’t help but compare the soap to the popular BBC One crime drama online.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “Jeez, #Corrie seems to have turned into #HappeyValley this evening [shocked emoji].”

Another added: “OMG @itvcorrie I didn’t see this coming! [shocked emoji] My nerves are still shot from #HappyValley last night! #Corrie #MondayDrama.”

A third asked: “Am I watching #corrie or #happeyvalley??”

It comes after Ben shared his struggles when facing his character’s nail-biting storyline on the show.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he described what Nick was going through when he received his son Sam’s terrified phone call that the Bistro was being robbed.

He said: “It’s awful. When it’s only affecting him he can handle it, but with Sam and all the trauma he’s been through already, this is the moment where he’s like, ‘I’m about to really ruin my kid’s life’.

“He’s a father who wasn’t there for 10 years and now he is here making his life worse, putting him at the centre of a gun siege.”
