Coronation Street's Paul 'jailed for murder' as fans twig sinister Stephen twist

Coronation Street fans are convinced Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will be wrongly jailed for murdering Rufus Donahue (Steve Mao).

Weatherfield killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) was left fuming in recent scenes when he learned that Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) was planning to leave the factor to work for businessman Rufus instead.

Rufus was also demanding money from Stephen, so the latest blow would have pushed the soap villain over the edge.

Fans know of Stephen’s murderous habits, and when it was later implied Rufus had died, they soon deduced Paul or Michael would have the blame pinned on them.

Coronation Street fans think Paul Foreman will be set up for Rufus Donahue’s murder

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “I think Paul will be jailed for murder.”

Another added: “Paul to be charged with murder of Rufus.”

A third person pointed out: “He’s being written out of the show so it looks like either his health declines.. or jail..or both?”

A fourth person posted: “Let me guess… Stephen is going to kill Rufus and Paul will get the blame?”

Stephen Reid was furious when he learned Michael Bailey was going to meet Rufus to discuss a job

Paul was seen hiding outside Rufus’ luxurious home watching him through the windows and he later stole Rufus’ car and drove away.

Moments later, Rufus was seen answering the door and asking: “What the hell are you doing here?”

He’d been expecting Michael, but it was clearly not his new employee at the door.

When Michael turned up and knocked at the door, there was no response.

Has Stephen murdered Rufus?

While not officially confirmed, it’s safe to assume that Stephen made his way over to Rufus’ and killed him.

Stephen has previously bumped off Leo Thompkins and his dad Teddy Thompkins.

He has also been drugging factory boss Carla Connor (Alison King) with LSD in a bid to takeover Underworld.

It has been confirmed that Paul will be leaving Corrie after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

Previously opening up on his exit, actor Peter Ash said: “I think I was called into the producer’s office late last year, and he [Iain McLeod] said ‘We have got this very big storyline for you’.

“It should be a great thing to do but unfortunately it does mean an eventual exit’, so I had mixed feelings obviously.

“I will be sad to leave the show. It has been such an amazing job, and I have met fantastic people, so yeah I will be sad to leave.”

Fans will have to wait to see if Paul ends up behind bars or if his health takes a turn for the worst.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm
