Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod has admitted to hiding from Roy Cropper star David Neilson over an upcoming storyline.
Roy is not a person fans of the ITV soap will expect to be dealing with an addiction in 2023.
However, Iain has revealed that Roy is going to fall prey to a contemporary obsession involving a mobile phone.

In recent scenes, Roy headed off to a bat group meeting in the woods but was unaware it had been cancelled due to him rejecting the phone Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) had bought him for Christmas.
Nina and some others headed into the woods to find Roy but things took a dark when she slipped and banged her head before rolling into the river.
Roy has since felt guilty for rejecting the phone and has complete u-turn towards his gift in upcoming scenes.
Iain explained: “I did hear rumours when I arrived on Coronation Street that David Neilson’s one red line was that Roy would never have a mobile phone.
“So when I was story-lining this I was kind go hiding from David thinking when he reads this script he’s going to go mad but in the end he didn’t and really appreciated the comedy behind it and obviously, to some degree towards the end of the story, normal service resumes.
“It becomes more about Roy’s love for Nina and vice versa.
“Roy decides ‘I need a mobile phone’ but then there’s this Classic Corrie story of Roy and mobile phone addiction.
“We thought there would be a good journey to go on with the generational difference between him and Nina.
It’s good fun and it draws Evelyn [Plummer, played by Maureen Lipman] in the mix aswell.”
Iain went on to reveal that he loves the dynamic between Roy and Evelyn.

He explained: “They’re both a similar age, idiosyncratic characters. There’s clearly a massive depth of affection there.
“Neither would admit that because its very un-British and unseemly to show how much you like somebody, so this buttoned up friendship emerges across the course of the phone story.
“I’m excited to see it. Both obviously such fantastic actors, it’s one of my favourite things in the new year.”
