Coronation Street’s Daniel Osbourne has faced lots of romantic drama since arriving on the cobbles – much like his father Ken Barlow.
Ken had an affair with Daniel’s mother Denise Osbourne during the nineties, but was left broken hearted after he learnt that Denise had a fling with her brother in law.
Denise returned just in time to stop Daniel killing Ken back in 2017 – but have you ever wondered where the actress who played her is now?

From landing a famous Emmerdale role to showcasing a secret talent, Daily Star takes a look at where Denise Osbourne star Denise Black is now.
Emmerdale fame
Although Denise is famous for playing Amy Wyatt’s adoptive grandmother Joanie Wright in Emmerdale, the actress was already a huge star long before stepping into the village.
After beginning her career in theatre, she toured with several companies and appeared in productions such as King Lear, Twelfth Night and The Threepenny Opera.
Ten years later, she made her TV debut in Casualty and from there has appeared in hit programmes such as The Bill, A Touch Of Frost, New Tricks, Doc Martin, Queer As Folk, Bad Girls and The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes.
However her life could have been much different, as Denise studied psychology and worked in a care home before pursuing her acting career.
In recent years, Denise has starred in Cucumber, Benidorm and The Lady Of Heaven, as well as returning to the stage in Sister Act: The Musical and Calendar Girls.
She also showed off her unrecognisable appearance in a new snap as she filmed a part in BBC series Call the Midwife, leaving fans stunned with her very different look.
Denise appeared to be holding a dead mouse up to the camera as she showed off silver locks which were wrapped up in a headscarf.
Coronation Street fame
Emmerdale isn’t Denise’s only soap fame, as she had a rival soap role in Coronation Street as Ken Barlow’s love interest.
In 1992, the actress played Denise Osbourne, a hairdresser who had an affair with Ken Barlow and later gave birth to current cobbles resident Daniel Osbourne.
She and Ken were to be married, but after she had an affair with her brother-in-low, Ken ended the relationship and Denise left Weatherfield.
Denise returned in 2007 and later in 2017, just one year after her son Daniel reunited with dad Ken and had tried to kill him.
Secret talent
Denise is not only a talented actress, but she is a musician too and has showcased her talents in a number of groups.
During the eighties, she formed the jazz group Denise Black and The Kray Sisters with actresses Kate Mackenzie and Josie Lawrence, who later appeared as Manda Best in EastEnders.
That’s not all, as Denise still wows fans with her musical talents and regularly sings in band The Loose Screw.
Health battle
Denise has opened up about her health battles in recent years, admitting to Metro that she was in an accident and suffered back issues.
However, she credited a good diet and exercise with helping alleviate her health issues, saying that she would often jog while filming Benidorm, complete Pilates and changing her eating habits.
“I’ve had some really bad health issues,” said Denise.
“I was in an accident, I had some back troubles and I did what an awful lot of women do in middle age – I just gave up. I thought: ‘Sod it, my body’s turning into an older person, I’ll stay young in my head’. But that doesn’t work, does it?
“So I met an absolutely brilliant lady in Brighton. With my arm issues as well, and she said: ‘I’ll take you on’ and that’s it. And I’ve just been jogging and I’m dead! [Laughs]”
She added: “I do feel better. Mentally I feel better and I feel stronger mentally because my body’s a bit stronger.”
Love life and husband’s Emmerdale stint
Away from our screens, Denise tends to keep her personal life private.
However, it is known that she is married to husband Paul Sand, who works as a vocal coach, and that they have two children together.
She also opened up about her joy at seeing Paul in The Woolpack Pub in Emmerdale, when he was hired to play an extra.
She told The Daily Record: “There’s a scene where Joanie is declaring to Zak, ‘Do you think there be somebody else in my life?’..and behind me is my husband of 35 years. It’s very sweet. I was very surprised he agreed to do it.
“He was quite emotional when he was here and said, ‘Don’t take this the wrong way but I’ve never seen you so happy in a job’ and the whole atmosphere at ITV studio Leeds is so warm like we enjoy our work.
“He said to me, ‘take a look at yourself in the mirror sweetheart, you’re happy’.”
