Corrie’s Elle Mulvaney hints at Amy’s future on soap and ‘never done before’ twist

Coronation Street’s Elle Mulvaney has warned fans that Amy Barlow won’t have a “straight and narrow path” following her horrific rape ordeal.

Earlier this year, ITV fans watched the youngest Barlow get raped by her friend Aaron Sandford after an unruly house party came to an end.

After realising what had happened, the university student reported him to the police and fought for months for the mechanic to get convicted for the crime.

But with little evidence to support her claim, there was nothing left to do but throw the case out with many residents convinced she had lied about the attack.

Last month, Amy finally got the answer she deserved after Aaron realised he had raped her before he left the Cobbles for good.

Now, the actress has lifted the lid on what that will mean for her character as she attempts to move on from the life-changing ordeal.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star at the Mummy’s Star Ball, Amy warned fans that the icon it won’t be smooth sailing for her.

She told us: “It’s definitely not going to be a straight and narrow path – let’s just say that I think it’s definitely going to be a journey but in the near future we do start to see her rebuild her life.

“She’s determined not to be destroyed by this but obviously there’s no straight path to recovering from something like this.

“At the end of the say this is something she is always going to live with, no matter how fine she seems.

“You could look 10 years down the line and there might be something that reminds her of it and she might get upset again. There’s no immediate answer essentially so who knows.”

But that doesn’t mean Amy’s dreams have been crushed forever, as the soap star shared her ambitions for her character moving forward.

When asked what storylines she would love to work on in the future, Elle said: “I don’t think romance is on the cards right now but I think a love triangle would be brilliant in the future.

“What I would really love is for her to be a boss businesswoman, like I want her to be strong, I want her to be fiery, I want her to do something that they’ve [the writers] not done before and for her to come out stronger.”
