Corrie’s Michael arrested as he’s ‘exposed’ as secret Stephen Reid accomplice

Coronation Street’s Michael Baily finds himself in hot water with the police next week as residents face to consequences of Stephen Reid’s fall from grace.

The serial killer’s reign of terror came to an end last week after Peter Barlow ran him over moments before he escaped a getaway car. While ITV viewers watched the cobbles killer being taken away in a body bag, residents are still reeling after Peter was arrested for Stephen’s murder.

But officers are convinced that Stephen wasn’t working alone and have Michael in their sights after he accidentally allowed the Canadian killer to steal £250,000 from the company shortly before his death. And it appears as though things are only about to get worse for the Underworld worker.

At the start of the week, Ed Bailey places a bet on a horse at the races to fuel his gambling addiction. Luckily, his risk pays off when the horse wins, but the conflicted resident stuffs the money in a bag in the hallway desperate to hide his addiction from Dee-Dee and Michael.

Blissfully unaware of its contents, Michael grabs the bag as he heads out to Underworld to plead Carla for his job back. But he is utterly stunned when he sees DS Sawin in her office looking to ask interview him about the cash Stephen stole.

After answering all her questions, Michael opens his bag and is baffled to find wads of cash stuffed inside. When DS Swain clocks the money, she demands to know where it came from before putting him in handcuffs.

Ed is riddled with guilt as he watched Michael being taken away in a police car under suspicion of working with Stephen to defraud Underworld. The nervous factory worker soon becomes agitated when Ronnie starts questioning him about the mate who lent him the money.

It doesn’t take long before Ronnie suspects that Ed’s gambling has gone out of control and confronts him, demanding he tell him the truth. It’s at this point that Ed admits he had a win on the horses but swears that he’s done with gambling and won’t let it happen again.

Joel is uneasy when Dee-Dee confides in him that Ed used to have a gambling problem that almost caused a fist in the family, insisting that his addiction is all in the past now. At the end of the week, Ed and Ronnie meet up with a potential investor in the bistro.

The investor is impressed with Ronnie’s sales pitch and agreed to go ahead. As Ronnie orders champagne all around, he fears that letting Ed get involved in this business deal could ruin the company.

Fans will have to stay tuned to see if Ed will come clean to the police about the money and clear Michael of all charges. It comes after Chris Gascoigne confirmed he will be leaving Coronation Street after his character killed Stephen Reid.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the actor warned viewers that this story will be the beginning of the end for his character. He told the publication: “Yes, without giving too much away, this will affect his future.”

He went on to tease his dramatic exit, adding: “He has just killed someone so there are many storylines that can come out of that and so many reasons he might not be around anymore. All I will say is I am delighted with my exit storyline. The scripts are superb, and I can’t wait to see the reaction to how Peter leaves the street.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
