Dancing on Ice's Oti Mabuse freaked out Sonny Jay with surprising late night DM

Sonny Jay has revealed he started feeling “nervous” after receiving a late-night DM from Oti Mabuse.

The 29-year-old radio star has just started hosting The Capital Late Show after spending nearly six years on the Breakfast Show, where he presented with Roman Kemp and Sian Welby.

But it seems he doesn’t realise how many famous people tune into his new late night slot when they’re in the car – including former Strictly star and Dancing on Ice judge Oti.

Dancing on Ice 2020 champ Sonny told Daily Star he forgets people are listening to his radio show and gets shocked when he finds out celebrities are listening.

Oti told Sonny she was listening to his show late at night

He said: “When you do a radio show, you always forget that people are listening. I know that sounds like a really stupid thing to say. You never know who’s listening.”

I was on-air the other night and I had a message from Oti Mabus who obviously does Dancing on Ice.She was like ‘Oh, great show! I’m listening to you in the back of the car.

“I’m like ‘Oh, Oti’s listening,’ and then I started going nervous! I’d rather not know. I’d rather not get the DMs, because otherwise I get a bit silly over it.”

But it looks like Sonny’s able to return the favour as he’s going to be attending one of the Dancing on Ice 2023 live shows, so he’ll be able to watch Oti in action and let her know about it.

Sonny said: “I’m gonna be like, I was listening to you!”

He also revealed he got a message from a mate who said he was listening to Sonny’s show in the car with superstar England footballer Declan Rice, who plays for West Ham.

Sonny revealed that taking over the Capital Late Show was a “bit of a dream” of his, explaining it “felt like the natural progression of where I want to be and what I want to do.”

But he cheekily added: “Obviously I’m not going to brag too much about it, but the amount of sleep I’m getting now is just unbelievable! I’ve got no 4am alarms anymore. I feel like a different man.”

Tune into The Capital Late Show with Sonny Jay Monday-Thursdays from 10pm-1am across the UK and on Global Player.
