Days of our Lives star Quinn Redeker dies aged 86 as tributes pour in for TV legend

Quinn Redeker has died aged 86, it has been revealed by his heartbroken family.

The actor died at his home in Los Angeles on December 20, with the news being shared on January 9.

Quinn who was born in Woodstock, Illinois, US, was best known for his work on US daytime dramas including The Young and the Restless as well as Days of our Lives.

He launched his career in 1960, taking on the role of USCG Lt. Bob Camp /Joey in the television action-adventure series, Sea Hunt, appearing in two episodes.

Shortly after he appeared as a party guest in the film The Marriage-Go-Round before landing a leading role in the 1962 film, The Three Stooges Meet Hercules.

Over the course of his career, he went on to gain over 20 acting credits across both television and film, with his last role being in 2012.

Quinn starred as President Ronald Reagan in the film Big Miracle alongside Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski.

Since finding fame, the actor was nominated on two occasions for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series for playing Nick Reed in The Young and the Restless, in 1989 and 1990.

He also went on to bag two Soap Opera Digest Awards, as well as the 1983 Soapy Award for Best Villain after starring as Alex Marchall on Days Of Our Lives.

Away from working in front of the camera, Quinn was also a respected screenwriter, having co-written the story for the Academy Award-nominated film The Deer Hunter with Lou Garfield.

The Deer Hunter went on to receive a nomination for the WGA Award for Best Drama Written Directly for the Screenplay with Deric Washburn, Louis A. Garfinkle and Michael Cimino.

Fans have flocked to pay tribute to the late star, with one writing: “So sad. RIP to the legend Quinn Redeker. He was around during the golden age of soap. Prayers and love to his loved ones.”

While a second went on to add: “Soap fans bad news. Quinn Redeker has died aged 88. He was a staple on daytime for 15 years 1st as Alex Marshall on #DaysofOurLives & then on #YR. On Days Alex was a lovable villain like Stefano or Victor but much more incompetent & hilarious. Often drunk with Anna, Gwen & Eugene.”

“Alas, another one goes beyond the veil. I absolutely loved Quinn Redeker. From Days to Y&R, he was always a favourite. Rest well, sir,” commented a third.

Quinn is survived by his children Brennen, Arianna, Glaen and Quinn Jr, as well as two grandchildren.
