Pam St Clement departed her much-loved EastEnders role of Pat Butcher in 2012 after her character’s health rapidly declined.
Although she made a comeback as Pat in 2016 for Peggy Mitchell’s departure from Albert Square, Pam keeps her life on the down-low.
Keeping out of the lime light, Pam keeps her on-screen appearances to a minimum and rarely graces our televisions.

Despite stepping away from acting, there have been a few occasions where she hasn’t been able to resist.
And aside from her TV appearances, she’s been up to a lot since her EastEnders departure – so scroll on to find out more about what Pam has been up to since bidding farewell to Pat.
EastEnders comeback
Back in 2016 when Barbara Windsor’s character of Peggy Mitchell was coming out of EastEnders, Pam returned to the soap as Pat for one final dig at the beloved pub landlady and head of the Mitchell family.
Peggy’s final episode saw her end her own life by taking an overdose of pills following her recent diagnosis of terminal cancer.
While Peggy went through with her plans, Pat was beside her throughout – with fans at the time unsure whether Peggy was hallucinating or whether the ghost of Pat was really there.
As the duo reunited prior to Peggy’s passing, Pat had one final dig at her pal when she noted that her makeover wasn’t bad “for a bottle blonde”.
Pam also brought back Pat’s ghost two years later in 2018 for SafeGlaze UK as Pat forms a double act with a window salesperson (also played by Pam).
Cannabis admission
Pam has previously admitted that she “takes dope” in order to curb her arthritic joint pain.
The admission came a few years ago when the iconic EastEnders star filmed a TV series about cannabis.
In 2017, she filmed and starred on the TV series Gone to Pot: American Road Trip, which saw her and a number of other celebrities travel across California and Colorado to learn more about cannabis.
Since taking part in the show, Pam has revealed she “takes dope every day” to help curb joint pain and believes it should be legalised.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror in 2017, Pam revealed that taking products containing cannibidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound of marijuana, have “given her a new lease of life”.
She told the paper that taking the oil “changed her life”, with her admitting that she was “no longer in pain”.
“My joints are no longer stiff, I sleep better, almost jump out of bed and walk longer distances – all things I could never have dreamed six weeks ago,” she went on.
Social media appearance
In May 2022 Pam made a very rare appearance on social media as she celebrated her 80th birthday.
Beaming alongside former EastEnders co-star Kellie Shirley, Pam looked exactly like her beloved character Pat as she smiled with her pal.
Kellie, who played Carly Wicks in the BBC One soap, shared a snap of her, her children and the birthday girl Pam.
In the caption of the joyous snap, Kellie penned: “Happy birthday to the Queen of #Walford and total legend that is #pamstclement #80 so much love and so glad you’re in our life!”
In the comments section fans were quick to share their excitment after having had a glimpse of one of the longest-serving soap icons.
One follower simply said: “I ADORE PAM,” while another penned: “Happy Birthday Pam! Love and miss you!’ a viewer posted.”
Stuck in typhoon
Before the coronavirus pandemic, Pam made an appearance on Loose Women in 2019.
While on the ITV1 show, she revealed that she had suffered “a year from hell” after getting caught up in a typhoon in Australia.
Pam was holidaying in Australia and had planned to have an operation on her knee when she returned.
But after an accident where she cut her leg open, her operation hopes came crashing down.
She explained at the time: “Would you believe it – the one part of my fat body that hasn’t got any flesh on it is my shin bone and it was straight across.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
