Emmerdale David Metcalfe’s fate ‘sealed’ as AI ‘exposes’ witness protection twist

Emmerdale’s David Metcalfe could placed in witness protection or even killed off, says Bard AI.

Last week, it was announced Matthew Wolfenden had quit the soap after 17 years of playing shop owner David.

It was reported the 43-year-old, who made his first appearance in the soap in 2006, had told friends he was “bored” with the plotlines given to his character in recent months.

A TV source told The Sun that he wants to “see what else is out there” after “not getting any gritty storylines”.

They added: “He’s excited about the opportunities available. He’s only just announced he is leaving so scriptwriters are working out his on-screen exit. It’s possible David could be killed off.”

As David’s exit looms, Daily Star has used popular artificial intelligent “creative” tool Bard AI to find out more about how he will leave the village.

Sharing a few possibilities, it suggested “the most likely scenario” will be David bidding farewell to the Dales in favour of a new job opportunity.

The AI system said: “He could leave the village for a new job offer. This is the most likely scenario, as Matthew Wolfenden has said that he is leaving Emmerdale to pursue other opportunities.

“David could be offered a job in another town or city, or even abroad. This would allow him to start a new chapter in his life and leave behind the drama of Emmerdale.”

It went on to suggest that David could be killed off in dramatic fashion, however this is “less likely” because soap bosses would be keen for his return in the future.

The programme explained: “He could be killed off. This is always a possibility in soap operas, but it seems less likely in David’s case.

“He is a popular character and the show’s writers may want to keep the door open for him to return in the future.”

Another possible scenario is that David will be forced to leave the village for another reason such as witness protection.

“He could be written out of the show in some other way,” the system pointed out.

“For example, he could move away with his family or go into witness protection. It is also possible that he could simply disappear, never to be seen again.”
