Emmerdale fans left emotional as Priya Sharma departs from ITV soap for good

Fans of Emmerdale were left heartbroken by the latest scenes after Priya Sharma said her final goodbyes on the ITV soap.

On Friday night’s episode (January 27), Priya said her farewells to family and friends as she enjoyed her leaving party in The Woolpack.

Clearly excited by her new business venture, Priya reassured the village residents that she would always come back to visit when necessary.

But as she prepared to head to London for her new opportunity with her daughter Amber in tow, fans at home were clearly sad to see the feisty brunette leave the soap for good.

Heading over to Twitter, emotional viewers shared their thoughts.

One person wrote: “Sad to see Priya go on # Emmerdale, she is a character synonymous with the time I really got into Emmerdale and has had some important storylines over the years.”

Another said: “Forever loved, forever our favourite and forever our Priya. We will miss you so much.”

A third penned: “Congratulations @FionaWade_ on an Incredible 9 years in #Emmerdale as the beautiful and feisty Priya. You’ll be missed massively and was a massive credit to the show. I wish you all the best for the future. My favourite character has left the village for good.”

Meanwhile a fourth devastated fan chimed: “Noooooooo. Not Priya.”

Actress Fiona Wade who played Priya was involved in a number of impactful and hard-hitting scenes throughout her time in the show.

Over the last nine years, her character overcame heartbreak, battled an eating disorder and suffered with PTSD after she sustained burns in a fire which was caused by the evil Meena Jutla.

But since the news of Fiona’s departure became public, die-hard fans have been left annoyed that the scriptwriters didn’t do enough with her character and said she was “under used”.

The character was plagued with a number of hard hitting storylines

Taking to Twitter, one viewer fumed: “#Emmerdale really under used Priya as a character. Sincerely hope Fiona goes onto bigger n better things, she deserves it.

“Not easy to leave a regular show, hope her guts to take that risk pays off big time.”

While another disappointed fan added: “Tracy, Kerry, Vanessa, now Priya? Could they not come up with anything more creative?”
