Frasier, how we have missed you…
90’s kids will have fond memories of the show and it soon became one of the most successful spinoff series of all time. Kelsey Grammer has returned as Frasier Crane in the Paramount+ reboot and as a hardcore fan of the original show, I was excited to say the least.
The first episode was released on Thursday (October 12) with a new one being revealed every Friday afterwards. The story of the reboot includes plenty of references to the original show and feels very nostalgic.

In the first episode Frasier finds himself back in Boston, where Cheers was filmed. The main story appears to be about his fractured relationship with his now grown-up son, Freddy who disappointed Frasier by dropping out of Harvard and becoming a firefighter.
It’s so good, it’s almost as if Kelsey never left the character. The raw emotion of losing a loved one was truly captivated as Frasier and Freddy talk about losing Freddy’s beloved grandfather is a subtle nod to actor John Mahoney who passed away in 2018.
As much as I felt that the first two episodes of Frasier seemed to be worth watching, it just can’t compare to the original. The absence of some of the original characters didn’t go unnoticed and while the producers have clearly tried to recreate them, it can’t live up to the real thing.
The reboot gives a Daphne-type character in Eve (Jess Salgueiro), a Roz-style co-worker in Olivia (Toks Olagundoye) and a Niles clone in Alan who is a sarcastic Brit, played by beloved Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst. And I’m not the only one with a divided opinion… The show has received mixed reviews on X and fans took to the social media platform after the reboot was revealed to share their views.
One person said: “I was just watching the Frasier reboot/revival. Not impressed (so far). Without Niles, Daphne, Martin (Rip JM), Eddie and Roz. It just doesn’t work. Surrounding the titular character with all new ones when the OG series characters were so established…” Another penned: “When I saw the trailer for the Frasier reboot, I was like where is everyone? Lol.”
Some fans loved the reboot and one person commented: “This #FraiserReboot is hilarious. “I’m listening.” Another said: “Ok, I didn’t think they could actually do it, but damn, the new Frasier reboot is actually really good. They’ve got the tone down to a tee. I hope it continues.”
If you can watch the reboot, you should. It’s still full of the wit and emotional moments that we all know and love. But try to avoid comparing it to the original, or you’ll be disappointed.
