Friday the 13th Jason child star unrecognisable 43 years on from horror franchise

One star of iconic horror movie franchise Friday the 13th looks totally unrecognisable more than four decades on from his role in the first film.

Ari Lehman shot to fame as the terrifying Jason Voorhees, who terrorised Camp Crystal Lake and slaughtered as many campers and counsellors as he could.

Fans will remember seeing Ari in the role in the 1980 film, in which Jason rose from the waters of the lake as a reanimated corpse. It took only four days of him being on set to get the final takes.

With a bald head, sunken skull and gaping mouth, the naked corpse was terrifying for anyone to look at – and thankfully, Ari looks a lot different in real life.

Now aged 58, Ari is completely unrecognisable. He rocks shoulder-length brunette curls and a matching brown beard, and tends to opt for a rock n’ roll style.

He’s most often seen wearing leather vests or leather jackets – which suits him down to the ground, as he formed his own rock and reggae band in the early 2000s, Ari Ben Moses Band.

Friday the 13th was one of Ari’s only major acting roles; his other being Roger in the movie Manny’s Orphans, which followed a group of inner-city orphans who play soccer together.

He’s also held a series of smaller roles in films like Camp Killer, The Lurker and Hell-ephone.

After finishing up as a child actor, Ari headed to New York University and studied jazz piano, performing as a keyboard player for various reggae bands across the world.

It wasn’t until 2004 that he formed his punk metal band First Jason – named, fittingly, after his horror movie character.

In his personal life, Ari is married to Elaine Campos-Moya. The pair share an 115-year-old home in Chicago together, and according to some sources were contemplating adopting children together.

Since Ari left his role as Jason, plenty of people have donned the iconic hockey mask. Everyone from Kane Hodder to Derek Mears and Steve Daskewisz have since played the role.
