Gino D’Acampo makes veiled dig at Phillip Schofield as Holly admits ‘we need a drink’

Gino D’Acampo returned to This Morning on Tuesday (June 20) and wasted no time making a cheeky dig towards Phillip Schofield.

The celebrity chef, 46, has spent the last month in Italy, meaning it’s the first time he’s been back in the studio since Phillip quit the show and his affair with a young male runner at ITV was exposed.

Speaking to hosts Dermot O’Leary and Holly Willoughby about what he planned on cooking, the I’m A Celeb star revealed his dish was changed at the last minute.

He explained: “I was going to make melanzane alla parmigiana, baked aubergine. But apparently I can’t do anything with aubergine at the moment so I’m going to make a tiramisu.”

Dermot, 50, immediately put his pen in his mouth while Holly turned her head and avoided making eye contact with the camera.

“It’s okay, I can live with it. Everything is under control. I am back,” Gino exclaimed before asking his co-stars: “Any news in the last month that I should know?”

“No!” insisted Holly, 42, as Gino continued: “Anything I should know?”

The presenter responded: “No news,” as she let out a nervous laugh while Dermot remained tight-lipped.

“Why is Dermot not talking anymore?” asked Gino before the former X Factor host told fans: “Just need to rephrase, he’s back for one time only!”

The duo then joined Gino in the kitchen for a truly chaotic segment as he whipped up a tasty tiramisu.

Afterwards, Gino insisted he was returning as he would be making cocktails later in the show.

Clearly onboard with the idea, Holly admitted: “Yes because I think we’ll all need a drink after that”.

Fans at home were in hysterics at Gino’s chaotic display, with many praising the star for subtly referencing Phillip’s departure.

“KNEW Gino was going to bring the Schofield saga. F***ing love it #ThisMorning,” exclaimed one viewer as another penned: “I’m so glad Gino addressed the elephant in the room finally!”

A third added: “Gino is a legend when he just asked “is there any news since I’ve been gone” GINO GINO GINO #ThisMorning.”

While a fourth person echoed: “Well Gino doesn’t disappoint does he “I’ve been in Italy for a month, any news I need to know about?” Cue poor Holly looking awkward #ThisMorning.”
