Go Compare icon reveals fans constantly ask for selfies – even at his nan’s funeral

Welsh singer Wynne Evans has revealed he was once asked for a selfie while using the loo.

The 51-year-old, who is best known for starring in the Go Compare advertising campaign, confessed that he has often been asked for selfies in the most strangest of places.

Talking exclusively to Daily Star, he joked: “I don’t know what’s wrong with people, right, because I could be in the toilet say at rugby and people will ask me for a selfie, you’ll go ‘I’m having a wee’.

The star then went on to mention a time when a fan asked him for a selfie during his grandmother’s funeral.

He continued: “I once was asked for a selfie and I probably shouldn’t say this, but we were burying my grandmother and we were at the graveside and somebody asked me for a selfie.

“And I remember when I took the photo, you could actually see the coffin in the background!

“My grandmother would have loved it! My grandmother would have been like, this is amazing!”

In addition to this, Wynne also mentioned that disgruntled fans would approach him on the street to tell him how much they hated him but would also request a selfie from him at the same time.

Last month Wynne was praised by This Morning viewers for his incredible weight loss journey.

The TV personality, who has appeared as the face of Go Compare since 2009, revealed that he had lost an incredible 5.5 stone.

Talking to presenters Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson at the time, the father-of-two said: “I’ve lost five and a bit stone and I feel great actually. It’s been calories. I’ve tried every diet in the world as I’ve always been fat.

“I wanted to do something as I was having trouble washing and getting up to the top of the stairs. My mental health hadn’t been great either over the last six years. I was on tablets for it.”

Praising his achievements, fans flocked to social media with one writing “Looking swish!!” alongside a flame emoji.

While another chimed: “Looking good Wynne.”

Wynne’s famous character Gio Compario catapulted him to fame and stardom and as well as being a TV sensation, Wynne’s Go Compare role landed him his own radio show, a number one classical album and gigs around the country.
