Fashion guru Gok Wan has shared his support to Sam Smith following the backlash they received for their flamboyant BRIT Awards outfit.
The Stay With Me Singer hit headlines last month after they wore a balloon-like latex ensemble on the red carpet.
Although it was quirky and fun, many were quick to slam the outfit with social media users and the likes of Piers Morgan labelling them an “attention seeker”.

However, fashion expert Gok approved Sam’s daring costume and said he loves that they’re “testing boundaries”.
Speaking exclusively with Daily Star at the Urban Music Awards, the 48-year-old said: “You know what, I love Sam.
“I think it’s all about expressing yourself and you do what makes you happy and you know they stood there and they owned it, and you know what I love them for that.”
He added: “I love the fact that they’re testing boundaries and they’ve got their own conversation when it comes to style as we all should have that.”
Following their appearance at the BRITs, Sam, 30, became a target on social media.
Sharing his thoughts on the outfit, outspoken Piers sparked a debate when he tweeted: “Methinks ‘they’ is getting a teeny weeny bit over-thirsty for attention.”
Replying to the Tweet, one fan wrote: “What a ghastly outfit,” while another added: “I guess it’s annoying for those sitting close or standing near by, they have to be careful.”
Sharing an opposing view, one person wrote: “It’s just pop – it’s supposed to be fun, stupid and outrageous.”
In 2019, Sam announced to their fans that they decided to change their pronouns after struggling with their gender identity.
However the star has confessed that their open change has come with challenges as they previously experienced harassment on the streets.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, they explained: “I think all the only negatives in the struggle have been in my public life and my job. And just the amount of hate and s****ness that came my way was just exhausting.
“It was in the f****** news. Someone spat at me in the street. It’s crazy. What I find hard about it is it’s like, if that’s happening to me and I’m famous, I’m a pop star, can you imagine what other kids, like queer kids are feeling?
“And it’s just so sad that we’re in 2023 and it’s still happening. It’s exhausting and especially in England.”
