Hollyoaks newcomer Carter Shepherd (David Ames) has caused a stir since he stepped foot in the village.
The Hollyoaks High head teacher has quickly befriended vulnerable John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) and they grow closer in upcoming scenes of the E4 soap opera.
Carter convinces John Paul to attend his support group next week and Nana McQueen (Diane Langton) wishes him luck as he goes on his healing journey following his horrific homophobic attack.

At the event, John Paul is introduced to Gareth, who assures him that Carter will change his life and later on, Carter congratulates John Paul for opening up to the room about his struggles with alcoholism, which led to the bus crash and life-changing injuries for Carter’s daughter Freya Calder (Ellie Henry).
However, following the news that Carter asks John Paul to join one of his groups, some Hollyoaks fans are convinced there’s more to Carter than meets the eyes, with some suggesting he wants revenge for injuring his daughter.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “So I’m thinking Carter is leading a cult or a conversion therapy thing and he’s pulling John Paul in. I want to see John Paul happy eventually but can’t lie, this looks interesting” while another added: “Has Carter a cult or involved in conversion therapy?”
Someone else wrote: “Yes he is going to brainwash JP. Maybe his religious group is into conversion therapy. I hope not for JPs sake. I think things are going to take a very dark turn and he has been watching and waiting to get revenge for what JP did to his daughter.”
A fourth viewer typed: “I have been reading about conversion therapy and it says it can come from a religious group. The things they do to people are awful! JP has been through so much, this could tip him over the edge.”

Actor James Sutton previously hinted to Daily Star that Carter could be John Paul’s new love interest.
“John Paul is very fragile and he’s suffered a lot of trauma,” the soap star said. “He doesn’t know who he is or where he fits in society, he doesn’t have a career, he doesn’t have his son around, he doesn’t have a partner so he’s very, very lost and he’s looking for guidance, comfort and friendship.
“I think a confident, intelligent and articulate man like Carter is kind of what John Paul is looking for and he fits that template perfectly. There’s going to be a lot going on between them over the next six months.”
Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm or watch episodes 24 hours before on Channel 4 online
