Seeing McFly live is something I’ve always wanted to do, considering they’re the first boyband I remember being obsessed with.
Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t the last – One Direction kind of knocked them off that top spot when I was 15 – but as a six year old, McFly was my favourite.
So when I saw that they were performing at Newmarket Race Course, it was an easy choice to go and see them while dressed to the nines for a lavish day out.
I’m not a huge betting girl, but after racking up £50 on two £2 bets, I was feeling in my element and pretty lucky – and it turns out, pretty psychic that day too…
When the races came to a close and McFly was preparing to take the stage, I ran back to my car and swapped my heels for some Ugg Boots (it was not my finest fashion hour, but my feet were killing and I was the designated driver, so I brought flats with me, I just wish they were trainers…).
Now in a far better mood, I joined the huge crowd to watch the foursome perform live, a mix of their older songs and some new songs.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know much of McFly’s new music – bar one track they performed on Lorraine a few weeks ago – but the vibe was fantastic, as expected.
There was very obviously a group of superfans who had camped out all day by the front of the stage, all who screamed every word to their new tracks, but I gave them a run for their money when they played their bangers.
My great mood soon came crashing down though, when the crowd was sorely reminded that McFly’s debut album Room On The 3rd Floor came out a whopping 20 years ago.
I know I’m 26, and it’s still young, but the realisation that I was eagerly awaiting their top tracks from an album that came out 30 years ago made me feel a little nauseous (but hey, they’re bangers for a reason).
As the gig came to a close, they finished with Five Colours In Her Hair – the perfect end to the set – and the crowd went wild.
Without even realising, I’d fulfilled something that was on my Bucket List, and although I’ve left feeling incredibly old, it was a gig I won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
