‘I’m star of Netflix’s raunchiest movie – here’s how I prepare for bonking on screen’

A slip, an awkward grab, a snigger: sex scenes can be a breeding ground for mishaps.

From Margot Robbie getting “a million paper cuts” after romping on a bed of dollar bills in The Wolf of Wall Street to Dakota Johnson getting “whiplash” after being thrown around in 50 Shades of Grey, things on set don’t always go exactly as planned.

And as we enter a new era of Netflix’s racy movies and TV shows, extra guardrails have needed to be put in place to avoid embarrassment. Giovanna Lancellotti, star of the platform’s raunchiest ever erotic thriller, Burning Betrayal, has lifted the lid on how she prepares for intimacy on screen.

Burning Betrayal has been dubbed 80% sex by fans. Find out why, here.

From receiving oral sex in the rain to bonking on a bench, each move and position had to be practised meticulously. “Every scene, every move was rehearsed,” she exclusively told the Daily Star. “When we go to shoot, we knew exactly what was going to happen.”

The 30-year-old Brazilian, from Sao Paulo, stars as broken-hearted Babi, who swiftly shifts from girl next door to femme fatale in the midst of a sexual awakening after being cheated on by her fiancé. After Giovanna ditched the world of soap operas for feature films thanks to a shiny new Netflix deal, Burning Betrayal brought with it a lot of new challenges.

Getting a helping hand

“For me, it’s a movie of first times: it’s the first time I’ve played someone like Babi, it’s the first time I’ve played so many sex scenes and it’s the first time I’ve worked with an intimacy coordinator on set,” she said.

After initially pondering how to tackle the sheer number of sex scenes, instead of being daunted, Giovanna said it was the support of professionals on set which helped her become comfortable.

“Our intimacy coordinator played a key role in the preparation,” Giovanna explained. “She assured us everything was going to unfold as we had rehearsed. It’s very important to have a professional like her on set.”

Model and actor Leonardo Lima, 41, played Babi’s lover, ‘hot judge’ Marco. In real life, he and Giovanna had been long-time friends, which also “helped us feel comfortable while we were shooting,” she said.

And having their loved ones by their side, such as Giovanna’s boyfriend of two years Gabriel David, also helped cut the tension. “Having a team of partners and friends made all the difference,” the Summer Heat star added.

Look good, feel good

The bronzed stunner, who flaunted her incredible figure on screen, also upped her training in the gym before filming. She said it helped her feel comfortable in her own skin while doing the deed.

“It’s a movie that I knew would show a lot of skin and I wanted to feel good about myself,” she said. “I didn’t want to be on stage worrying about my body. I wanted to be safe to do my job as an actress. My body is an instrument of work.”

While some may think romps are sprinkled into movies purely for their ‘Netflix and chill’ value, Giovanna begs to differ. “Sex is a part of our human experience. It shouldn’t be a taboo,” she argued.

“Babi is free: to cry, to love, to be vulnerable, to experience her sexuality, most of all, to live as she wishes. This freedom gives her strength. She doesn’t need a man. She already is her own person.”

Giovanna added that she hopes Babi’s strength, openness to love and ability to make her own choices resonate with women everywhere.
