Inside three-hour ‘Harry Potter school’ for child stars forced to miss lessons

Harry Potter stars had a gruelling filming schedule and were forced to take time away from traditional schooling so that they could be on set.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, Emma Watson’s body double Flick Miles explained all about the on-set Harry Potter school set up to help the kids with their education.

She revealed: “From the age of 10 to 14 it was my life. I didn’t do much else, I didn’t go to school, so it was huge. […] The only reason I left was because of schooling.

“I was about to start doing GCSEs, I was going into year 10. The schooling at Harry Potter was amazing but it wasn’t the same as going to school.”

Flick went on to explain that the kids were given “a timetable of lessons” and tutors taught them material that the kids’ schools had sent over for “at least three hours a day”.

“The tutors were amazing! Sometimes it would be just you and them, so they’d try and make it as interesting as they could. They would try put us in together – when we were all in filming for the Great Hall scenes, there would be about five or six in a class.”

Miles’ “intense filming schedule” meant that she was on set “almost every day” and rarely had extended periods off, aside from “Christmas and Easter”.

“We’d get to the studio just before nine [o’clock] and we’d leave at seven, I think – when you’re 10, it’s the worst!”

Although Flick praised her tutors, the on-set schooling is Miles’ hilarious reason behind why Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is her least favourite film.

Flick was involved in the first four Harry Potter films

She jokingly said: “It might just be because when we were filming, Hermione had been petrified by the Basilisk, so for ages the boys were filming and I wasn’t.”

“I would just come in and go to school – maybe subconsciously that’s affected my opinion! Makes me think of those days, just coming in to go to school and not actually filming. Obviously Harry and Ron go off because Hermione’s in the hospital bed, so I think that might be why!”
