Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has shared he’s undergone major knee surgery and says it could take him up to a year to fully recover.
The ITV actor, 41, posted a photo of him lying in bed with a bandaged knee to his Instagram account on Wednesday.
The snap showed him in good spirits as he gave a thumbs-up to the camera and told how he had ACL reconstruction surgery at a private hospital called Oaklands, in Salford, Greater Manchester, on November 3 followed by a black tick sign.

In the accompanying caption, Alan, who plays mechanic Tyrone Dobbs in the soap, wrote: “ACL Reconstruction surgery. Well, On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well. I know I have a long 9 to 12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I am sure with the support of family and friends I’ll get there.
He sent a thank you messaged to the hospital who treated him, penning: “Thank you to the amazing staff at Oaklands xx” and also thanked his girlfriend, the actress Tisha Merry, his partner, 30, who has been helping to care for him at home.
He finished the caption with: “and also thanks to my very own nurse ratched @missdrewmerry93 any rehab tips or advise??”
Anterior cruciate ligament surgery known as ACL involves complex reconstruction or replacement of a major tendon and usually takes six to nine months to recover says health guidelines.
If the reconstructive surgery is needed for a knee tear, the operation comes with the warning that the knee may not exactly be like it was before.
Alan received lots of get well wishes and love from his many onscreen co-stars past and present in the comments section, as Samia Longchambon who plays hairdresser Maria on the show wrote: ‘Holler if you need some grapes.”
Colson Smith who plays Coronation Street’s resident copper Craig said: “Get that rested up for the Christmas party.”
Sally Carman whose character Abi Franklin works with Tyrone in the garage said: “Oh bless you Al. So glad it went well,” with her comment followed by a hands up and yellow heart emojis.
Georgia Taylor who plays Toyah Battersby said: “aw recover well darling!”
Claire Sweeney who plays his long lost onscreen mum in the soap wrote: “This is great news, glad it was a success xxxx”, and Ryan Thomas who used to play Jason Grimshaw posted a heart emoji in the comments section.
