Strictly Come Dancing star, Bill Bailey has spoken out following Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial comments surrounding Meghan Markle.
The former Top Gear presenter sparked global outrage when he shared his thoughts on the Duchess of Sussex in an opinion article which has since been deleted.
Jeremy, 62, has since addressed the backlash, claiming he “put his foot in it” and was “horrified to have caused so much hurt” – although his apology didn’t sit well with Meghan’s team over in California.

Clarkson sparked outrage after stating he hates Meghan but in the same way, he hates the likes of Rose West and Nicola Sturgeon.
He also added that he often “dreams of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her,” before adding that “everyone” of his age agrees with him.
Now, Bill has commented on the backlash which saw the article written for The Sun become the most complained about news article of all time.
“You might [make a comment like Clarkson’s] in the pub as a clumsy, oafish sort of laugh,” said Bill before adding to The Telegraph: “But you put it in print and not only does it take on another life but it gives gravitas to something that should never have had it.
“You think, ‘Come on, you’ve got to be more savvy than that, surely you can see how that’s going to pan out’, it was misguided and ill-conceived and he got the kicking he deserved.”
Jeremy has since claimed his comments were a “clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones” which “went down badly”.
The Sun has since apologised for the hurt caused by the article, explained the publication is “sincerely sorry” and removed it from its archives.
However, a spokesperson for Meghan has hit out stating that the apology was “nothing more than a PR stunt”.
In a statement, they said: “The fact that The Sun has not contacted The Duchess of Sussex to apologise shows their intent, this is nothing more than a PR stunt.
“While the public absolutely deserves the publication’s regrets for their dangerous comments, we wouldn’t be in this situation if The Sun did not continue to profit off of and exploit hate, violence and misogyny. A true apology would be a shift in their coverage and ethical standards for all. Unfortunately, we’re not holding our breath.”
