Kate Ferdinand has revealed her first Mother’s Day with husband Rio and his children didn’t go smoothly.
The former TOWIE star confessed she “sobbed her heart out” after she didn’t receive a card or acknowledgement of the day or her new role as step-mum to her husband’s children.
Speaking on her BLENDED podcast, Kate revealed she had felt upset when she hadn’t received a small present as a token of appreciation on her role as a new mother to Rio’s kids.

Kate married Rio Ferdinand and became step-mum to his children, Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and Tia, 11, when she wed the former footballer in 2019.
Rio had tragically lost his first wife Rebecca Ellison to breast cancer in 2015.

Speaking on her podcast, Kate explained: “I wasn’t a biological mum. I think it was our first Mother’s Day – maybe I’d been living here about six months, something like that.
“And although I wasn’t a biological mum I kind of felt like I’d taken on the mum role. For me, going from living at home on my own to taking the kids to school, cooking them dinner, I felt like a mum.”

Speaking directly to husband Rio, Kate added: “I really thought I might get a card from you, and I didn’t get a card from you.
“I felt bad to express that in front of you because you guys had lost your mum, and the kids have lost their mum. So I just went in my room and I just sobbed my heart out – seriously.
“And then I felt selfish for wanting a card – how dare I want a card? So anyone that’s kind of new in this situation might feel like that because it’s a weird one – I wasn’t a biological parent so how could I expect that? But I felt like a mum.”

Kate gave birth to son Cree in December 2020.
The couple revealed in September last year that they had suffered a devastating miscarriage in the July.
At the start of this year, Kate revealed she was pregnant again via her instagram with a sweet black and white snap of her bump.
The former TOWIE star captioned the snap: “We’ve been praying for you…”
