Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has cancelled all of her TV work to stay by the side of her husband Derek Draper in hospital.
She’ll be spending Christmas by his bedside after he suffered a heart attack which left him fighting for his life. It’s another blow for the family after he became seriously ill after contracting coronavirus in early 2020.
His recovery has been highly documented by the telly host herself and she’s regularly shared updates on his health. Almost four years after he first became ill with the virus, Derek was rushed to hospital after suffering a “massive heart attack”.

A source told The Mirror how he has been left fighting for his life all over again and came as a “shock” after doing so well.
They said: “He had been doing well and was in great spirits, looking forward to Christmas at home with the family.” It was also said the family were all hoping for positive news soon.
“Kate’s only focus right now is Derek and her family,” they added.
Derek had previously spent over a year in hospital after contracting Covid-19 and became Britain’s longest suffering victim. Ahead of Christmas 2021, Kate confirmed that she was able to spend the festive season at home with her husband.
She said at the time that it was the “biggest gift”, but noted he still had a “long, long way to go”. They were able to spend the following Christmas together at home too.
He’s continued to be in and out of hospital since he first contracted coronavirus, and in October Kate confirmed her husband hadn’t been doing well. She explained he had been left with long-lasting organ damage and needed around-the-clock care.
Kate has released two documentaries since her husband first started his lengthy health battle. The first one was Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, which was released in 2021 and followed his long battle in hospital.
Once he returned home she filmed Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, which focused on how she and her family looked after him and came together to move forward. The telly star won two NTAs following the releases of her documentaries.
