Katie Price warned against 'dangerous' cosmetic trend after showing off huge new lips

Reality TV star Katie Price recently had her lips done, following the new trend of “butterfly lips” but cosmetic doctor Dr Asha has warned fans against the trend.

The 44-year-old beauty, who’s no stranger to filler and cosmetic touch-ups, showed off her new lips earlier this year after she had the previous filler dissolved to make way for the new look.

Unveiling the new look for her 2.6million Instagram followers, Katie wrote: “Butterfly lips – dissolve and refill in one session. Absolutely loving my lips.”

“So guys I’m going to zoom on my lips and show you the new technique of the tapes on the lips,” she added as she showed the thin tape that surrounded her freshly plump lips.

Despite Katie’s praise for the new trend, Dr Asha Chhaya from sk:n clinics has slammed the “dangerous trend”, adding that it “carries a high risk of infection.”

“Using tape immediately after filler can impact the healing of the lips and result in infection, it is dangerous, unhygienic and not endorsed by any reputable medical injectors,” Dr Asha explained.

“It is worth noting that taping lips after having filler does not help to prevent migration or evert lips as it so claims,” she added.

“There has been no research done to suggest this is the case and it is certainly not backed by science.”

Dr Asha continued: “After having filler dissolved it is not uncommon to experience bruising and swelling, which is why I always advise my patients to wait a couple of weeks for the lips to settle first.

“The last thing you want is another poor result after having filler dissolved.”

“Anyone who has had a butterfly lip treatment should visit an experienced medical injector to assess their lips,” she advised. “

“If a patient were to visit me in clinic after having this butterfly lip filler, I would recommend dissolving the filler immediately to help prevent any irreversible damage.”

“It really concerns me that patients having these unethical treatments will also be injected with counterfeit products.”
