The comic has made it no secret that Andy was his biggest fan and often turned to his late father for inspiration throughout his career.
Andy’s death was confirmed by a family friend, explaining: “Patricia, who was his wife for 47 years, was by his side along with his sons John and Kevin as well as Kevin’s wife and his grandson Liam.
“Andy was Kevin’s mentor and took him to his first-ever gig when he was a teenager. He was still bouncing new material off him in recent weeks.”
They went on to tell The Sun: “Andy was absolutely hilarious and that’s where Kevin got his comedy skills from.”
While Kevin rarely opens up about his private life, in September 2021, he revealed he and his dad had returned to the same place he launched his career.
In view of his Instagram followers, he shared a snap of the pair outside The Stand, writing: “Over 17 and a half years since this man drove me up here for my first open mic spot. Good to have him back in da cluuuub last night. There we were now here we are… #Da #BigAndy.”
Speaking in the past, Kevin explained he had to take his dad as well as a note confirming he was able to appear on stage at clubs due to him not being 18 at the time.
During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in 2015, he explained: “My dad, he used to drive me to the gigs because I was too young to perform in the clubs so they’d [let me] as long as I brought a parent, which was pretty uncool.
“He used to drive me everywhere, all over Scotland.”
In a bid to thank his beloved parents, Kevin paid for them to go on the Orient Express for their anniversary, before joking that Andy was the only person to miss the famous train.
