Lewis Capaldi’s health battles uncovered as he axes tour ahead of Glastonbury gig

Lewis Capaldi’s health problems have been uncovered as he opens up about his struggles.

Earlier this month, he made the difficult decision to cancel all of his upcoming gigs after revealing he needed to “rest and recover”.

Fortunately for the singer, his adoring fans instantly flocked to his aid to offer him support.

The Scotsman had an incredible rise to fame, writing hits like ‘Grace’, but sadly, for the time being, it appears he needs some time to himself.

Taking to Twitter, The 26-year-old wrote: “Hi everyone, hope you’re well. This is a really difficult message and one that hurts me a lot to have to type.”

He continued: “I’m really sorry to say that I’m going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury.”

With a heavy heart, Lewis felt he had to cancel his eagerly-anticipated shows in Glasgow, Dublin, London and Norway.

The singer added: “The last few months have been full on both mentally and physically, I haven’t been home properly since Christmas, and at the moment, I’m struggling to get to grips with it all.

“I need to take a moment to rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I’m able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come.

“I need to take these three weeks to be Lewis from Glasgow for a bit, spend some time with my family and friends and do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better.”

This isn’t the first time Lewis has struggled with his health, having been diagnosed last year with Tourette’s syndrome, a neurological condition, which can often cause verbal and physical tics.

Speaking about his condition, he joked: “I wanted to speak about it because I didn’t want people to think I was taking cocaine or something.

He explained that his shoulder twitches occur when he’s excited, happy, nervous, or stressed.

Staying positive, he claimed: “It is something I am living with. It’s not as bad as it looks.”

Showcasing the relationship he’s built with his fans, in his toughest moments, they’ve rallied to support him.

During a performance of ‘Someone You Loved’, he struggled to sing due to his tics, at which point the crowd helped him out and finished the song.

In addition, he’s struggled with anxiety due to his alcohol consumption.

He confessed: “I always feel anxious after drinking, but I’d really hammered it after a long time of not boozing, and my mum had to come down to calm me down – lie in bed with me.”

And he didn’t realise quite how bad his symptoms were until he watched his Netflix documentary ‘How I’m Feeling Now’.

In the aftermath of sitting down and watching the programme, he told The Times: “I didn’t expect my life to be so sad.”

Knowing his priorities, he confirmed he’d give up the celebrity lifestyle if it became too detrimental to his health.

He said: “Right now, the trade-off is worth it, but if it gets to a point where I’m doing irreparable damage to myself, I’ll quit.”

“My mental health issues are a direct symptom of my job.

“I still haven’t quite got there, but it’s interesting that this thing that you love to do and you’ve always wanted to do becomes something that causes you such distress, but such is the modern world.”

The popular performer is scheduled to play the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury on June 24.
