Lily Allen had to be rushed from the stage during a theatre performance of The Pillowman on Wednesday (August 23) after a fire alarm forced the evacuation of the venue.
The 38-year old, who stars as writer Katurian in the Martin McDonagh West End production, initially confused members of the audience who believed it was part of her act.
However, it soon became clear that wasn’t the case when every spectator was ushered to safety by security staff from the Duke of York’s Theatre – as a fire engine arrived at the scene.

Concerned attendees took to social media at the time, with one commenting: “Lily rushed off stage – everyone thought it was a scary part of the play, but it turns out it was real.”
Another wrote: Right in the middle of a gripping performance of the Pillowman at the Duke of York’s Theatre, we were evacuated.”
And a third bemused guest added: “Right in the middle of a gripping performance of The Pillowman at the Duke of York’s Theatre, we were evacuated. Fire brigade showed up a few minutes later. Not sure why yet, but the spell is broken I’m afraid.”
Later, meanwhile, a spokesperson for London Fire Brigade explained to the Sun that the drama had been caused by a false alarm.
A statement read: “Firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at a theatre on St Martin’s Lane in Central London,” the spokesperson told The Sun. “The theatre was evacuated as a precaution. A crew attended and following investigation, established there was no fire.”
“The Brigade was called at 3.11pm and the incident was over for firefighters by 3.24pm. A fire engine from Lambeth Fire Station attended the scene.”
