Love Island star argues newly-imposed Instagram ban is 'unfair' for new contestants

Love Island’s Billy Brown thinks the new Instagram ban may hold back some contestants.

ITV have decided to put a pause on the singletons’ social media accounts for the first time.

Usually, the Islanders’ profiles are controlled by someone on the outside who actively posted throughout their stay in the villa.

Talking about the new move, Billy exclusively said: “Noway, that’s mad innit, it’s mad because for me I went in there just for why not and if I found a girl then even better.

“But I’m not the person to go in there for the Instagram side of things that’s not how I am but other people might and for that to be taken away I’m not sure if that’s fair.

“As obviously when you’re in there, whoever is taking control of your account shows your personality as they share old photos and answer questions while you’re in there.

He continued: “It’s a good way of getting who you are across to your fans and if you can’t have that they’re never going to know you until you’re out.

“It makes sense to get to know someone through their Instagram but it might be clever as after the show people may be more interested.

“You never know how it’s gonna go, they clearly know what they’re doing, they’ve seen trolls enough now so maybe it’s time to stop it.”

ITV released a statement about the new ban, which read: “As part of extended measures to protect both the Islanders and their families from the adverse effects of social media, participants will be asked to pause handles and accounts on their social media platforms for the duration of their time on the show. Islanders’ accounts will remain dormant while they are in the Villa, so that nothing is published on their behalf.”

Billy also lifted the lid on what happens during the Love Island audition process.

The Casa Amor 2021, 23, said: “They ask different things, and they are very good at what they’re doing but for me, it was so hard to open up straight away when I met the execs I had to be my crazy funny self straight away.

“It’s so funny they’re like ‘c’mon then, how many people have you slept with?’ Straight away in there, so I went ‘how many people have you slept with? and they were like ‘good answer’.

“You have to fill out a booklet of like 80 pages and they ask you on paper have you ever had a threesome? Have you ever done all these sexual things… And then they go into really deep into relationship questions.”
