Love Island star Ron Hall has spoken out about the new Instagram ban that prevents friends and family from taking control of contestants’ profiles during the show.
Ron believes that Islanders should turn off comments before entering the villa to avoid being subjected to hate messages from viewers.
Speaking alongside his girlfriend Lana Jenkins, Ron said: “I think if they’re gonna keep it [the ban], turn comments off, because your family and friends can still see comments on your old pictures.”

Ron, who finished as a runner-up on the show, also said that contestants must be “really thick-skinned” to handle the negative comments that come with being a reality TV star.
He added that some people apply for Love Island for the wrong reasons and hopes that future contestants will focus on finding love rather than fame.
“We don’t even consider ourselves as celebrities. We don’t want to live that lifestyle,” he said.
Lana and Ron also discussed their plans for the future, with Lana expressing an interest in staying involved in the beauty industry, while Ron hopes to use his platform to open up discussions on mental health and financial advice for young people.
“I think people get the wrong idea about this and they see people living this celebrity lifestyle,” Ron said.
“But you shouldn’t be going on there for followers. Yes, that’s a side benefit of it but you should be going on there for the experience to find someone [and not] as a career path.”
Ron’s suggestion to turn off comments on old pictures has received mixed responses from fans, with some praising his idea for tackling online abuse while others argue that it goes against the spirit of social media.
Ron’s girlfriend Lana Jenkins recently caused a stir among fans after confessing to having the “ick” with boyfriend Ron.
In a recent social media post, Lana revealed that seeing Ron in a gaming headset had put her off.
The couple, who came second in this year’s series, had been seen as one of the more stable pairs, but their relationship has been subject to rumours of strain.
Reports suggest that the couple had a heated argument on a plane following the show’s finale, with Ron refusing to move to be with Lana in Manchester.
Producers had to step in to resolve the conflict, which also caused a delay in filming the “meeting the family” section of the reunion show.
