Some fans are convinced that 33-year-old Sam Ryder, who shot to fame when he represented the UK at Eurovision 2022 with his hit song Space Man, might be behind Phoenix.

Taking to Reddit, one fan said: “For me, Phoenix, it’s very possible it could be Sam Ryder,” to which someone replied: “If it is, I might just scream.”

The guesses come after Phoenix was seen giving a clue about filling stadiums, with fans also spotting the character having a similar height to Sam.

Fans also noted that Phoenix has wings which prevents them from holding a microphone, and linked it to how Sam usually opts for a mic stand.

Another guess happened on Twitter in the early hours of 2023, following Sam’s New Year’s Eve show on the BBC, when one person penned: “Imagine Sam Ryder on the Masked Singer, he has such versatility that he could probably impersonate any artist he wanted to.”

This isn’t the first time fans have thought Sam might pop up on the beloved ITV1 guessing show though.

Back in the summer following Sam’s incredible Eurovision stint, one person took to Twitter to say: “How likely do you reckon it is Sam Ryder is on Masked Singer next year? 70%?”

To which someone replied: “They should make it so that ALL the singers are Sam Ryder, doing different voices. What a twist!”
