Maya Jama's Love Island salary 'unveiled as six-figure sum' after 'increased airtime'

Maya Jama has become an instant hit as the host of this year’s series of winter Love Island – and she’s reportedly raking in hundreds of thousands for her new job.

The TV stunner stepped in after past host Laura Whitmore quit after two years of hosting the ITV2 show.

Maya made her big villa debut back in January, where she welcomed this year’s Islanders to their sunny new pad in South Africa.

And fans have gone wild every time they see Maya step back into the villa to drop huge news on the cast, from shock recoupling announcements to Beach Club parties.

As Love Island announced Kai and Sanam as the winners of the 2023 winter series, Daily Star has looked into how much Maya gets paid and how much screen time she’s had over the last eight weeks.

It is thought that Maya is earning at least a six-figure fee for hosting Love Island, but no official confirmation has been revealed about her pay packet.

Last year in July, The Sun reported that Laura Whitmore was earning as much as £600,000 to front the series.

Based on the screen time she’d had at the time, it would have worked out at a whopping £744 per second.

However, Laura slammed the claims on her Instagram Story, writing: “£744 a second! I feel sorry for whoever was made attempt the ridiculous maths based on nothing but speculation [sic].”

She then joked: “Lads I’ve made 10k whilst writing this story!”

But if true, then Maya would likely be earning £600k or perhaps even more, and if she hosts the summer series that figure could increase.

Back in January, it was reported that after four episodes, Maya had already bagged herself more airtime than former host Laura.

According to The Sun, Maya featured for 19 minutes and 55 seconds during the first week of the series, while Laura had featured for 13 minutes and 26 seconds at that point during the last series.

Even Love Island narrator Ian Stirling, Laura’s husband, referenced Maya’s screen time during an episode.

He quipped: “She could’ve just sent a text, but we wanted to get our money’s worth out of that return flight to Cape Town.”

Maya returned to the villa on 3 and 16 February as well as the start of March, when she gatecrashed the Beach Club party and announced the double dumping.

She also returned to the villa on Monday (March 13) to host the Love island final, where either Tom and Samie, Kai and Sanam, Ron and Lana and Shaq and Tanya were be crowned winners.

And she hosts Love Island spin-off show Aftersun every Sunday, where she’s on screens for an hour, so fans have been treated to plenty of Maya over the last eight weeks.
