It’s that time of year again – when A-listers from across the world gather at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Los Angeles in some of the most eye-catching outfits ever.
The Met Gala, hosted by Vogue, will follow a theme this year of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, to honour the late creative director of Chanel.
Lagerfeld died in February 2019 at the age of 85.

We can definitely expect a range of show-stopping ensembles, and with that comes a long list of wardrobe malfunctions.
From nipple flashes to gowns bursting open at the seams, plenty of things can – and do – go wrong. Daily Star has collected some of the raciest wardrobe blunders over the years.
Knicker flashes

In 2017, Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima as left red-faced as she accidentally flashed her underwear for waiting photographers.
The star wowed in a plunging gown which bared plenty of side-boob before falling into a full silk skirt – but was left totally open in the front.
The result? A very clear glimpse of Adriana’s black knickers and toned thighs.
But she wasn’t the only one – some years before in 2014, Zoe Kravitz did the exact same thing in a stunning scarlet gown.
She ditched her bra underneath, but kept on a pair of hot pink knickers despite the waist-high split up one leg of her skirt, allowing gathered photographers to get a snap of her undies.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart suffered a major wardrobe malfunction at the 2021 Met Gala, which saw her dripping head-to-toe in Chanel.
The Met Gala veteran donned a ruffled pink floral jacket over a sheer lace tank top and huge white trousers – but deciding to ditch the jacket when she sat down, Kristen suffered an embarrassing moment.
She told People Magazine: “So I go to the Met ball and there’s a new set of kids at the Chanel table. There was a beautiful young tennis player [Emma Raducanu] and a young actress [Whitney Peak].
“I’m talking to them, saying, ‘Welcome, I’ve done this a couple times,’ and they look like I’m scaring them. I look down, and literally my [nipple] is in their faces. I was like, ‘OK, sorry, I’ll put that away now’.”
She giggled: “They’re like, ‘Who is this crazy old actress at the Met Ball?’ This is going to be a story for them when they’re older.”
Dress bursts open

In 2018, Kylie Jenner donned a stunning dress created by Alexander Wang – but had a fun fact to share with fans two years after the event.
She admitted on Instagram: “Fun fact: this dress wasn’t supposed to have a zipper but it ripped as I was squeezing into it so we added it on the way out the door… but it worked out and I loved it.”
The silver zipper created a pop of colour in Kylie’s cut-out black gown, and definitely looked like it was part of the original design – but apparently not.
Nip slips

Royals songstress Lorde caught the attention of paps at the Met Gala in 2016 when one of her boobs fell entirely out of her net gown.
In a pale pink dress which fell into a tutu skirt, Lorde sported a cast on one arm – which might have explained why she couldn’t quite adjust her gown enough to tuck her nip back in.
She opted to go without a bra for the event, accessorising with a silver diamond bracelet by KWIAT instead.
But Lorde’s in good company. In 2017, Zendaya went bra-free in a plunging jumpsuit for a Met Gala afterparty – and accidentally gave the cameras a glimpse of nipple.
Crotch rip

Olympic diver Tom Daley also experienced a very humiliating moment at the Met Gala – and recalled the mortifying moment his trousers tore attending the event for the first time.
He told GQ: “It was at the afterparty. I changed into these trousers – when I got out the cab they ripped.
“It wasn’t just like a small rip either. It was like a full, up the crotch, dramatic opening.”
Tom joked: “I just went [to the party] anyway. I was in a car with Gigi Goode and I asked ‘Can you tell?’ and they were like ‘No’. The only time you could tell was if I hoisted my leg up. But it was a conversation starter.”
Top falls down

Starships hitmaker Nicki Minaj was in the middle of the Met Gala red carpet when she suffered a rather embarrassing blunder – as she was constantly tugging at her top to make sure it covered her chest.
At last year’s event, Nicki donned a black gown embellished with feathers by Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci.
She admitted: “The only unplanned thing about my look is that my boobs [are] popping out because they made my cup size a little small.”
The star joked to La La Anthony, who suggested the dress was created before Nicki gave birth in 2020: “Enjoy these t***es, because you won’t ever see them again.”
Shoe stuck

It happens to the best of us – in 2022, even Katy Perry was struck by misfortune.
Katy got her high heeled shoe stuck in a vent at the red carpet, revealed in a cheeky video posted by YouTube’s head of fashion and beauty, Derek Blasberg.
While filming model Karlie Kloss – who sported a knee brace along with her outfit – Katy could be heard admitting in the background: “She is beauty, and she is grace. She’s also got her foot stuck in a vent.”
When the camera panned to her, Katy’s Aquazarra heel was trapped in an air vent on the floor, as Blasberg joked the Met Gala is a “full contact sport”.
