Otis Redding III has died at the age of 59.
His family have confirmed that the singer and guitarist, who is the son and namesake of the famous soul singer of the 1960’s, passed away from cancer.
He was just three-years-old when his father, along with several members of his band, died in a plane crash in 1967 on December 10.

Over a decade later, the singer and his sibling Dexter formed the 1980’s funk band The Reddings, which released six albums in that decade.
His sister Karla Redding-Andrews confirmed his passing in a statement: “It is with heavy hearts that the family of Otis Redding III confirms that he lost his battle with cancer last evening,”
The message was posted on the Facebook page of the family’s charity, the Otis Redding Foundation in Georgia.
He followed his father into the music industry and achieved considerable success with his brother and their band.
Their song ‘Remote Control,’ from their first album named The Awakening, went to number six on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.
Their follow up named ‘Call the Law’ made the top 20 on the Hot Black Singles chart in 1988.
The artist was also hired for a European tour as a guitarist for the soul singer Eddie Floyd, where he soon become comfortable performing songs of his famous father under his mentorship.
In a 2018 interview with WCSH-TV in Maine, he explained that the artist told him: “You can play guitar with me, but you’re going to have to sing a few of your dad’s songs,”
He recalled the conservation went on: “I was like, `Huh? I don’t sing,’ you know. And he was like, `Well, you’re going to sing “Dock of the Bay” with me tonight.”
