Paul Chuckle has shared his outrage after noticing a huge change to Quality Street chocolates – they’ve lost their shine, quite literally.
The comedy legend shared a photo of a box of the festive favourites, with tasty treats like the Toffee Penny, The Purple One and the Milk Choc Block on display. And while many might not even notice a chance, Paul had clocked that they were all in different wrappers.
Previously, Quality Streets had been wrapped in translucent colourful plastic and shiny foil. Tagging the brand, Paul said in his Instagram caption: “When did Quality Street lose their shiny wrappers?”

Making it clear he wasn’t a huge fan of the change, he added the hash tag “dull”. But he soon got his answer.
The Quality Street account left a response explaining all. The comment read: “The cellulose material we used previously for our Quality Street wrappers is not recyclable.
“In line with our commitment to make all our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025, we have needed to find an alternative that will be recyclable,” the comment added. But the response got a mixed reaction.
One fuming fan said: “Won’t be buying this year then, the fun was shiny wrappers.” Another disagreed, saying: “The fun is eating them. If you just want shiny wrappers, get some tinfoil.”
Another praised the brand, saying: “Well done Quality Street – absolutely right to make them recyclable.” But another was unhappy, saying: “I always remember at Christmas, we would all sit round for hours looking at the shiny wrappers, it was always so much fun. Thanks Quality Street. Christmas ruined.”
Paul himself was much happier after discovering what was going on, though. He said: “Thank you Quality Street for your worthy answer.”
And showing he was fully on board despite his earlier sadness, he added the hash tag “save the planet”. A follower agreed, telling him: “Now all the other brands need to follow suit.”
The change came in this year, with paper wrappers introduced like how they had originally been sold in 1936. That means that customers would be able to put empty wrappers in recycling bins – but the brand has assured fans the chocolates inside remain the same.
