Wings rocker Denny Laine has sadly passed away aged 79.
The musician found fame as the lead singer of the Moody blues, as well as for being a guitarist in Paul McCartney’s band, Wings. The news of his death was confirmed by his wife on Tuesday (December 5) who revealed he had been battling lung cancer prior to his death.
In a statement she said: “I was at his side, holding his hand as I played his favourite Christmas songs for him. He fought everyday.”

She went on: “He was so strong and brave, never complained. All he wanted was to be home with me and his pet kitty, Charley, playing his gypsy guitar.”

Denny worked with Sir Paul in 1971 and stayed with the band Wings for ten years. Their song, Mull of Kintyre, became the first single to sell more than two million in the UK.
He ended up leaving the band in April 1981. His reason was down to Paul not wanting to tour, following the death of John Lennon’s murder.

Recalling his time in the band, he told Billboard earlier this year: “I was in the shadows more, but I wasn’t bothered by that. I was traveling the world and learning a lot and having a good time in many ways. So from that point of view, it was easy for me.”
Tributes have since poured in for the star. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Sad to hear that Macca’s Wingman Denny Laine has died.

“He wrote some great tunes and through the 70s they made some great music. He played a vital part in the classic Band on the Run.”
Another added: “A sad day. RIP Denny Laine.” A third penned: “Very sad to hear that Denny Laine has now passed away. A very talented musician. RIP.”
