Peter Andre shares surprise career U-turn as he says he is 'shaking things up'

Peter Andre revealed he was ready to “ruffle a few feathers” after he joined forces with travel company On the Beach for a fun tongue-in-cheek campaign.

In December, the 49-year-old urged radio stations to stop playing the Christmas hit, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, as it gives listeners ‘false hope’.

The Andy Williams’ classic is synonymous with the Christmas period, however, the Mysterious Girl hitmaker says the tune is incorrect and that summer holidays are more wonderful than Christmas.

His plea came off the back of a survey done by On the Beach which revealed that more than half (60%) of the nation would prefer to skip Christmas in favour of a beach getaway.

Discussing his new role as Head of Summer Holidays for On the Beach, Peter exclusively told Daily Star: “I’ve been made head of summer for on the beach. You know, I’m not gonna get that job and not ruffle a few feathers. That’s the whole point of it.

“If you get a new prime minister or a new president, he’s got to shake things up a bit. So if you make me the CEO or president or the head of summer for On the Beach, I am going to go for it.”

Wanting to take things further, the pop icon came up with the idea to re-record the song and turn it into a summer hit – a request which was rejected by the Andy Williams estate.

Despite loving the 1963 track, the I’m A Celeb star noted the song is “factually incorrect” and that’s why he wanted to alter the lyrics.

“I thought wouldn’t it be fun if we could rewrite the lyrics,” Peter explained, sarcastically adding: “Of course, we expected straightaway for the Andy Williams to go to the estate to go, ‘Yes, hello. Course you can. But surprisingly, they said no.”

The TV personality revealed his wife, Emily, puzzled him on what basis he had to say summer is better than Christmas – and he had the perfect answer.

“Most people don’t start focusing on Christmas until December 1 and then they stop focusing 26 days later. You then have this 25/26 day period of trying to get everything done, trying to get all the presents and the pressure of everything.”

Although the dad-of-four recognised Christmas has many fun elements, he summarised it as “25 days of pressure.”

Peter continued: “Now let’s go to summer. The clocks go forward in March and you start getting longer days. You then get summer which lasts for three months, plus the three months of spring leading up to it.

“So you’re talking about a six month period of feeling pretty good. I’ll take six months over 25 days any day of the week.”
