Lots of us would love to get a chance to rub shoulders with the royals, but it seems your best bet at bagging yourself a pal at Buckingham Palace is to be a celebrity.
That’s because Prince William and Kate Middleton are friends with some of the most famous faces in Britain, and they range from your favourite footballers to rock icons.
And it turns out one of them goes way back with the future king, because Hollywood heartthrob Eddie Redmayne went to school with William.

With King Charles’ Coronation this week, Daily Star has made a list of WIlliam and Kate’s celebrity friends – and it would make for one impressive dinner party.
David and Victoria Beckham
Football icon David Beckham has been friends with William for years, and the pair are often spotted together at football games.
Back in 2020, David and his son Romeo were invited into the royal box to watch England beat Germany in the Euros and were seen chatting with the Prince.
But they’ve also worked together on mental health projects as David spoke to William on video call about his “toughest year” for the Duke’s Head’s Up campaign.
Speaking about their friendship in Esquire, David said: “We’ve done a lot of functions together. It’s a very normal relationship. With Harry, as well. They’re very easy to get along with.
“They love their sport. William loves Aston Villa, unfortunately, which obviously I give him a bit of stick about.”
David’s famous wife Victoria is a royal favourite too as they were both invited to William and Kate’s wedding in 2011.
Kate reportedly became friends with the Spice Girls songstress when David and William bonded during their time spent working together on the London Olympic bid in 2007.
Elton John
Another close friend of Kate’s is hitmaker Elton John – who had actually been a good friend of William’s late mother Princess Diana long before her tragic death.
Elton had met Diana at a party in 1981 and they’d struck up a great friendship thereafter.
In 1997 The Princess of Wales was killed in a horrific car accident and the singer was invited to perform Candle In The at her Westminster Abbey funeral in 1997.
The I’m Still Standing singer had also known William since he had been a child and their companionship continued into adulthood.
Their bond was highlighted again on April 29, 2011 when Elton and his husband David Furnish were invited to attend Kate and Williams big day.
Eddie Redmayne
Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne have known each-other for years, because they went to Eton College together.
The pair even played on the same rugby team, so they go way back, but poor William got a bit of a rough ride as everybody wanted to tackle him.
Eddie said: “I always felt a bit sorry for him, because basically any school you played, all they wanted to do was tackle Prince William and they could say, ‘I tackled Prince William’.”
Reese Witherspoon
Another celebrity chum of Kate’s is Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon.
The Duchess and Reese were acquainted during the Kate’s first Royal tour after she’d tied the knot with William in 2011.
In 2018, Reese gushed about Kate’s witty humour in her autobiography and cookbook – Whiskey In A Teacup.
Speaking about their gathering on Canada Day, she penned: “I was up at 4am doing my hair. That’s early, even for me. I was up, dressed, and waiting by the door by 7am. Jim took pictures of me in the car.
“You can see rays of happiness shooting out of my face. I love Kate Middleton that much. And she did not disappoint!
The Big Little Lies actress added: “She was just lovely and warm, elegant and composed. She also told a joke, and I immediately fell under her spell. She’s just as magnificent as she seems to be. She’s a very compassionate, socially conscious, deeply caring person.”
In 2012, it is believed that Kate had sent Reese a gift after her son Tennessee had been born.
Roger Federer
Although Kate and her family love nothing more than to attend Wimbledon each year, many will not know that Duchess has a close chum in the racket sport.
Roger Federer has been a dear friend of the Middletons for a long time and it was even speculated that the professional tennis player had even given Prince George private lessons.
The sportsman never speaks about his relationship with Kate or her family but did give fans insight at the 2019 Wimbledon tournament of his time spent coaching the future King.
He told reporters at the Wimbledon opening that George was a “sweet boy” and had already shown great skills on the court.
Giovanna Fletcher
I’m A Celeb winner Giovanna Fletcher became friends with the Princess of Wales when Kate was a guest on her Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast back in 2020.
It was Kate’s first ever podcast interview and it seemed to go rather well as they were only expected to chat for 45 minutes but ended up lasting much longer.
Mum-of-three Giovanna spoke to the Duchess about motherhood as Kate is a mother to princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.
Reflecting on the podcast, Giovanna said: “What a complete career high, just two mums nattering away but in true mum fashion by the end we were drinking cold tea.”
