Rene Russo's daughter is stunning model who's written Scarlett Johansson space movie

They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – and Rene Russo’s stunning, talented daughter is living proof.

Rose Gilroy, 29, is the only daughter of model turned actress Rene, who celebrates her 69th birthday today (Friday February 17), and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Dan Gilroy.

Her mum, Rene, was a top model in the 1970s and 80s then became a big time movie star, appearing in films such as Lethal Weapon 3 and 4, Outbreak and Get Shorty.

Dan Gilroy, her dad, is a screenwriter and director best known for writing and directing the 2014 Jake Gyllenhaal movie Nightcrawler, also starring his wife Rene.

So it’s fair to say her genes are strong.

She too is a model, actress and writer, and has penned a major Hollywood movie out later this year.

Following in her mum’s footsteps, Rose, who’s been described as both “gorgeous” ands “fresh-faced”, established herself as an in-demand model, taking the fashion world by storm.

When asked who inspired her the most, Rose told Glamour: “Definitely my mom, I look up to her a lot.”

Rose graduated with a diploma from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, completing a double major in political science and psychology, before signing with Elite Model Management, a major agency.

She told W Magazine at the time: “I spent the last four years in college studying, so it’s definitely a different experience.

“But I wanted to take time to do something creative. I come from a creative family and it wasn’t something I had the chance to do in college. I’ve just been doing traditionally academic things.

“I love the creative aspect of modelling though and being around that creative energy.”

Rose has since strutted her stuff on catwalks all over the world, for fashion houses including Dolce & Gabbana, and, just like her mum, has been snapped for glossy magazines such as Vogue and Elle.

She added: “You have to work hard at everything, whether it’s school or modelling. Nothing is given to you. I’m lucky that I grew up with a mother who thought fashion was a really important industry.”

And again like her mum, she’s showed her worth as an actress, with roles in short films, State of the State and Bella, as well as the TV series, The Edge of Sleep.

But even more impressive still, she’s apparently inherited her dad’s talent for screenwriting, having penned the aforementioned Bella and The Edge of Sleep.

Now, she’s set for an even bigger breakthrough after writing the script for the highly anticipated space race drama, Project Artemis, starring Avengers babe Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum in lead roles.

The finer details of the plot, set to the backdrop of a 1960s NASA space race, is still strictly under wraps and while a release date is yet to be set, it’s expected to hit screens in late 2023 on Apple TV.

Rose’s mum Rene enjoyed a breakthrough role in 1989 film Major League.

She met her husband Dan on the set of 1992 action and sci-fi flick Freejack and they got married a few months later.

The Lethal Weapon blockbusters, in which she played detective Lorna Cole alongside Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, won her an army of new fans, leading to roles in big budget movies such as The Thomas Crown Affair.

Dan was nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Nightcrawler.
