Sam Smith’s confession about their surprising hobby has BBC viewers baffled in a re-surfaced clip.

A video of the non-binary music artist, 30, is doing the rounds on social media after they admitted that they dream of becoming a “fisher-them” during an appearance on The One Show.

The award-winning artist, who had everyone talking at this year’s Brit Awards, sent fans wilds as they opened up about their surprising fly-fishing hobby.

The pop star, who uses the pronouns they/them was interviewed by host Ronan Keating, who asked them: “You’re a big fan of fishing?”

The Stay With Me singer replied: “I do love fishing, yes!” before adding: “Yeah, I’d love to be a fisher-them.”

Ronan then asked them: “What, like a fly fisherman?”, to which Sam corrected: “I’d be any type of fisher-them.”

Chiming in with: “I think I would like to, one day, I’d just like to end my days fishing. Like sitting on a bank.”

They added: “I do it on the sea, and I do it on lakes. I’ve never done it alone. Someone’s almost taught me.”

Viewers took to social media to share their reactions to the confession, with one writing: “What fresh linguistic hell is this?”

A second said: “Sam changing fisherman to fisher-them is everything. YAS queen.’

It comes after the musician and trans artist Kim Petras were faced with a barrage of Ofcom complaints following their performance of their hit track Unholy at this year’s Brits.

Ofcom reported that they received 106 complaints for the awards on February 11, explaining that most of them were about the show Sam and Kim put on.

Despite some agitated viewers, most fans went wild for the live rendition of the hit track, with one finding it “spectacular”.

“I don’t understand the hate as I thought @samsmith & @kimpetras performance @BRITs was on fire!” they tweeted.
