Scarlett Johansson says Avengers was ‘big sausage party’ as she confirms Marvel future

Scarlett Johansson has confessed that filming the first Avengers film felt like a “big sausage party”.

Scarlett played the only woman in the Avengers, Black Widow AKA Natasha Romanoff. She and fellow actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who played Pepper Potts, were two of the very few women seen on-screen for the MCU flick.

Now the Black Widow star has opened up on Gwyneth’s Goop podcast to reflect on her journey within the Marvel franchise – breaking her silence on whether she will ever return.

Gwyneth told Scarlett she was “psyched” to have her on set for Iron Man 2.

“We were so psyched you were there and I was so happy to have another woman around,” she gushed.

Johansson then said: “But then later on, I experienced that too. When I did Avengers I was also one of the few. It was like a big sausage party.”

But Scarlett now says she is “done” with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

She confirmed on the podcast: “I’m done. Chapter is over. I kind of did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again like that, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”

Johansson has, however, been pushing for an all-female Marvel movie.

She said: “That group of actresses is so incredibly powerful and when they come together, it’s explosive and unstoppable. So yes, I’m pushing for that. I think audiences want it and I’m definitely one of them.”

Also on the podcast, Johansson and Paltrow addressed the long-standing rumours of a feud between them during their Marvel tenures.

Paltrow said: “People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t get along on Iron Man?”

As Johansson replied: “Is that a rumour? You were so nice to me on that movie. I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! You could’ve been awful.

“I was so out of my comfort zone on that movie. I’d never done anything like that before. Plus, you had established such deep friendships.”

Paltrow branded the rumours “lame” back in 2010, hitting out: “Why do we need to make a problem between two women?”
