Sinead O’Connor remembered as thousands of tearful fans gather at emotional memorials

Thousands of tearful fans came together to remember Sinead O’Connor.

The tragic news broke on Wednesday (July 26) that the legendary Irish singer had passed away aged 56, just 18 months after the death of her 17-year-old son Shane.

A day later, admirers of the singer flocked to locations such as to the London Irish Centre in Camden to pay tribute to the star, in a memorial hosted by DJ Annie Mac.

Another location to host a memorial included he Rock ‘n’ Roll Museum in the Temple Bar area of Dublin.

Words such as “Thank you Sinead, we heard you” were written on a sign as flowers, cards and candles were placed on a shrine for the global superstar.

In a post on their Instagram account, the London Irish Centre said: “Join us tonight to pay tribute to a true Irish legend, Sinead O’Connor.

“Annie Mac and guests will be holding an impromptu gathering at the London Irish Centre in honour of Sinead and her impact on the Irish community and beyond.”

Coroners have now confirmed that there is currently no medical cause given for her death, and that an autopsy is underway with results potentially taking “several weeks”.

A police statement confirmed: “Police were called at 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area.”

The statement went on: “Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Next of kin have been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

Sinéad’s family revealed they were “devastated” in a heartbreaking statement about her death which read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.

“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
