Star Trek’s William Shatner reveals Black Mirror style plans for when he dies

Acting legend William Shatner has revealed he is planning an unusual burial when he dies.

And the Star Trek legend has laid plans for a Black Mirror-style platform that allows him to speak to people from beyond the grave.

Shatner, 92, was a guest on Jackass star Steve-O’s Wild Ride podcast when he described the plans.

The pair were talking about a track on Shatner’s newest album – titled ‘I Want to Be A Tree’.

Steve-O was fascinated at the song title and the duo got on to the conversation of death and burials.

Leading the conversation, Steve-O jumped at the opportunity to share his disdain for normal ceremonies.

“I feel so strongly that cemeteries drive me absolutely insane because it’s a cycle of life – so we’re only temporarily borrowing this physical matter, this condensed energy for a very brief period of time,” he explained.

“And for us to be so audacious, vain, obnoxious to take a plot of land to permanently occupy…cemeteries make the whole world a cemetery”.

Shatner agreed with the sentiment, believing that the burials dig through “soft, porous, fertile soil”, which affects farming.

The Captain Kirk actor then went on to explain that when he passes away he wishes to have his ashes incorporated into the ground to help become a tree.

“If you believe in a soul, a life after death, it does not interfere with that,” he said.

“Your body – like every other body that dies – is taken over by fungi.

“Nature reclaims you no matter what you do so why not have a voice in your reclamation? And I chose a tree.”

Shatner explained that he had wished to be planted as part of a sequoia, but clarified that redwoods need to be planted at high altitudes.

But he is leaving the task of carrying out his wishes to his loved ones after he passes away.

He said: “Tell your loved ones, ‘cremate me’ – because you have to. Put the goodness in place, where the tree is gonna grow and plant the tree.

“There’s no law saying you have to have a tombstone.”

The actor added that he wants to add a feature where friends and loved ones could ask him anything from beyond the grave.

In a notion akin to those depicted in more than episode of sci-fi TV show Black Mirror, he said recordings and computer technology would allow him to answer questions about his life and career after he’s died.

But he explained that he had to spend five days in a studio recording the answers to these questions, which cost him dearly.

Fans were quick to show their support for William, with many commending his youthful push at 92.

One viewer commented: “Appearance is one thing, but being so eloquent and witty and fully there at 92 is something I truly admire. I’m beyond impressed.”

Another user wrote under the episode that he was in awe of Shatner: “This guy must have incredible genes. The fact he’s 92 and doing this well is INSANE”.

Whilst a third paid tribute to Bill, who lamented: “Losing this guy is going to be one of the saddest moments in pop culture history. He is the Godfather of science fiction conventions and fandoms for the last 50 years”.
