Strictly fans are gearing up for the 2023 final – where one famous face will be crowned the winner.
The likes of Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams all have their eyes on the iconic Glitterball trophy. And they’ll be doing whatever they can on Saturday night (December 16) to impress the judges and the nation.
And while the show is famous for its so called ‘Strictly curse’ – the series has been said to also have a ‘live final curse’. Over the years, the show has seen a ton of disastrous moments take place moments before the final episode airs.

So with all eyes on the final three this weekend, Daily Star is taking a look at the wildest disasters to happen at the final. And let’s just hope the 2023 finalists don’t face any…
Voting drama
The winner of Strictly is decided by the public via votes – but sometimes the voting process is not exactly plain sailing. Back in 2019, fans were unable to vote due to a glitch in the system.
But some fans were to make repeated votes up to 40 times. Usually they are only given three votes to use when voting online.
Fans were fuming at the time and took to X, formerly known as Twitter. One person said; “Fix the voting. I’m banging in votes and it’s not even stopping me. About 40 and counting so far, all been sympathy votes for Anton.”
Kelvin Fletcher ended up winning that series with Oti Mabuse. While Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden, and Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke became the show’s finalists.
Wardrobe malfunctions
Famous for its jaw-dropping, sequin-coated outfits, Strictly has unfortunately seen its fair share of wardrobe blunders over the years. In 2018, sadly Stacy Dooley experienced this.
During the final, she gave viewers more than an eyeful after he dress rose up unexpectedly high.
Outraged fans took to Twitter at the time to share their shock. “It wasn’t even after the 9pm watershed, Stacey!” Said one stunned viewer.
Covid chaos
Filming Strictly during Covid was never going to be easy – with bosses praying that no outbreaks of the virus would hit the glitzy show.
But in the 2020 series, the show’s first ever same-sex pair, Nicola Adams and dance pro Katya Jones had to quit in week three. One of them came down with the virus. Fortunately, the duo did return for the live final six weeks later.
The same can’t be said for 2020 star Tilly Ramsay who was unable to attend to the final due to testing positive. She was partnered with Nikita Kuzmin on the show and was the 9th celeb to get eliminated.
Brutal bust-ups
In 2018, despite winning the series with future baby mama Stacey Dooley, Kevin Clifton was not too happy with a certain judge. So much so that he had words with judge Craig Revel Horwood at the post-finale wrap party. According to Kevin, who has since left the show, he confronted Craig and accused him of marking him down in performances.
Speaking on This Morning at the time, he said: “He seems to always be really hard in the final, the few I’ve been in, he comes down on me and my partner. I thought ‘not again’. I was with him at the wrap party after. I said ‘Craig you were killing me man’.”
‘Fix’ claims

As expected, there’s been a ton of fix claims over the years to his Strictly. Especially in 2018, when Joe Suggs found himself involved in a ‘firm claim.
Fans of the show found a way for other fans around the world to vote for him. At the time, a four-step instruction shared via social media made its round online. It said: “How to vote for #Joanne if you’re not in the UK.”
Fears soon arose that this would enable Joe an advantage due to his international fan base of around 8.2 million. Despite the ‘fix’ claims, he and partner Dianne Bussell eventually lost out to Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton who won the show.
