Strictly legend Len Goodman ‘started dancing for girls’ and joked he was ‘good in bed’

Len Goodman revealed he got into ballroom dancing “for girls” and joked he was “good in bed”.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge passed away on Saturday (April 22) surrounded by his family after a short battle with bone cancer.

The spokeswoman told MailOnline: “I can confirm he died peacefully over the weekend surrounded by his family.”

Len is best known for his stints as head judge on Strictly and Dancing With The Stars, which he left last November.

But before taking his seat at the judges’ table, Len was a professional ballroom dancer himself and took to the sport at the age of 21 before retiring in his late 20s.

And he revealed his reason for taking to the sport later in life was a little unconventional.

Speaking to podcast hosts Dame Esther Rantzen and Adrian Mills on the That’s After Life! podcast in May 2021, he said: “The only reason I ever went ballroom dancing was because [of] a friend of mine.

Len confessed there was a cheeky reason why he first took up ballroom dancing

“I said, ‘Do you want to go to the pictures tomorrow?’

“He said, ‘No, I want to go ballroom dancing.'”

When he asked why, he said his pal replied: “Because there’s about five boys and about 40 girls.”

“And I said, ‘Right, I’m coming with you,'” Len joked. “So it was only girls that got me dancing at all really.

“[The ballroom was] full of beautiful girls. Most of the boys were gay. Double whammy!”

Dame Rantzen was quick to comment on how Len “cut a swathe” through the women on the dancefloor and joked it was because of the late judge’s “wicked sense of humour”.

Len responded: “I’m like the complete package here! And I’m going to let you into a secret now, I am good in bed.

“I don’t snore, I don’t hog the duvet, I just get over on my own side and fall asleep.”

Last November, the TV star announced he was hanging up his scoring paddle once and for all after more than 15 years on Dancing With The Stars.

He told viewers: “This will be my last season judging Dancing With the Stars.

“I’ve been on the show since it started in 2005, and it has been a huge pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful show but I’ve decided I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain.”

He also quit the beloved UK show Strictly Come Dancing after 14 seasons in 2016.

Len leaves behind dance teacher wife Sue Barrett, a son, and two grandchildren.
