Strictly’s Angela Scanlon’s marriage to rich hubby — family ‘fear’ and kids’ names

Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Scanlon is making waves on the glitzy BBC One show at the moment.

Partnered up with Carlos Gu, the pair have set the dance floor on fire so far. Last weekend, the duo performed a powerful yet intense Tango and bagged 23 points from the judges and a solid 8th place on the leaderboard for the week.

Away from the dance floor, Angela is probably best known for hosting TV shows like Your Home Made Perfect and Robert Wars. She’s also fronted BBC’s iconic chat show The One Show since 2015.

But when she’s not fronting TV shows or practicing her Strictly moves, she can be found at home with her husband, Roy Horgan, and their two adorable daughters. So, as Angela gets stuck into the glitzy series, Daily Star is taking a look inside her relationship with husband Roy.

In June 2014, Angela tied the knot and married business entrepreneur Roy Horgan, from County Cork, Ireland at a gorgeous ceremony in Wicklow. The pair had been in a long-term romance before getting hitched.

And it’s fair to say Angela’s beau is most likely earning the big bucks. His career began in corporate banking. He is now said to be the CEO of SES-imagotag for the UK & Ireland.

Although she usually keeps their relationship under-wraps, Angela issued a sweet tribute to her hubby on their four-year anniversary. She penned: “Four years ago today, I married this absolute nugget of a human under a tree with all our favourite people heckling.

“The kindest, smartest, most stubborn man I know. The yin to my yang. The steak to my tofu (or something)… My [world emoji].”

In February 2018, Angela and Roy welcomed their eldest daughter, Ruby Ellen. Five years later, they Angela gave birth to a second daughter called Marnie Fae in February 2022.

During an Instagram Q&A, the presenter revealed how she came up with the unique monikers and what exactly inspired them. A fan quizzed her: “How did you decide on your daughters’ names?”

Angela said: “I always had Ruby even before I was pregnant. Marnie was a last minute decision. We had other names milling about but this one came late in the day (I think she gave it to me!). She was born in water so it feels fitting too.”

She might not sharing snaps of her hubby left right and centre but Angela is no stranger to gushing over Roy. In a Q&A Instagram, she was asked: “When did you know it was the right time to start a family?’

Never one to shy away from telling the truth she penned: “Honestly I was always afraid. I had the mad notion that it would end my career. I was terrified that everything I worked on would vanish or be unmanageable.

“I am very lucky to have a husband who is HANDS ON – who absolutely supports me. It’s hardcore at times and juggling is a lot but I feel so so lucky.”

She finished off with: “I don’t know that there’s ever a “right” time but I do think some robust, honest conversations about the reality of starting a family are needed before but it is also MAGIC and so wildly fulfilling in ways I never imaged.”
