Williams, who is known for his roles in the West End, is set to become the first man to participate in the show wearing a dress.
The 28-year-old is also looking to show off his dancing skills in a suit, but wants to embrace modern fashion by wearing a vibrant frock.
Speaking to The Mirror, a source said that Layton was adamant he wanted to shake things up in the costume department.
“He wanted his Strictly outfits to reflect different sides of his personality and everyone fully supports him on that,” the insider said.
“So he will have a chance to wear Strictly dresses, as well as the men’s sharp suits, when he performs. There are some really exciting looks in there. Layton can’t wait to get started”.
A Strictly spokesperson refused to confirm or deny the rumour, saying that it is a priority for the show to let contestants “to be comfortable with what they wear on the ballroom floor”.
Should the rumours prove true, it would follow similar moves by Layton on wearing heels and dresses.
Speaking on his lead role in the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, a queer musical showing a 16-year-old’s journey to becoming a drag queen, Layton said that he always wanted to experiment.
“I was looking at pictures of myself on the red carpet from the Jamie movie premiere and I thought, ‘Hmm, would I, as Layton, have felt comfortable wearing a gown to a premiere if I hadn’t explored my sense of self?’
“I’ve always wanted to rock the heels, the gowns, the dress… and now I just love it.”
Williams has also given drips of information to impatient fans as the show gears up for its launch show.
Layton appeared to confirm that he would be part of a male-male duo, following in the footsteps of Bake Off star John Whaite, who was the first celebrity to paired with someone of the same sex.
