Taylor Swift ‘snubbed’ chance to appear on Meghan Markle’s axed podcast

Taylor Swift reportedly turned down the chance to appear as a guest on Meghan Markle’s now-scrapped Spotify podcast.

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly wrote a personalised letter to Taylor asking her to appear on Archetypes.

The podcast saw Meghan investigate and discuss the labels that can hold women back with a range of guests, including Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, Jameela Jamil and Andy Cohen.

However, it has been claimed that the Shake It Off singer snubbed the chance to make an appearance.

According to the Telegraph, Meghan wrote a “personal letter” to Taylor, asking her to appear on Archetypes, “but the singer declined, through a representative.”

The news of Meghan’s failed attempt to bring Taylor on the show comes after Spotify and the Sussexes released a joint statement announcing their decision to part ways.

Meghan and Harry’s Archewell Audio signed an exclusive $20million (£16million) deal with Spotify at the end of 2020, as they attempted to be financially independent after breaking away from the Royal Family and relocating to California.

Meghan hosted the podcast Archetypes, which ran for 12 episodes from August last year and topped podcast charts in a number of markets.

The joint statement said: “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”

Following the axe, a top Spotify executive lashed out at Harry and Meghan and labelled them “f***ing grifters”.

They were said to be facing fresh disappointment earlier this week as their application to trademark the word “Archetypes” has been rejected.

Harry and Meghan had submitted an application to get exclusive rights to “Archetypes”, which is the name of their podcast, but the US Patent and Trademark Office has refused.

Harry and Meghan filed the application to try and obtain exclusive use of “Archetypes” for ” downloadable audio recordings and podcasts ” and anything related to the “cultural treatment of women and stereotypes facing women.”

However, officials have rejected the application due to the “likelihood of confusion” with an existing brand.

Meghan and Harry’s lawyer, Majorie Witter Norman, has now applied for an extra three months in order to prepare another application.
