Within the first 10 minutes, viewers witnessed a tragic arson attack on a family home, resulting in the death of the mum following the house exploding.
Show alum DS Jenn Townsend (played by Marsha Thomason), was tasked with the case and finding out what happened and races over to the heartbroken family, the Metcalfs.
The show’s opening got plenty of viewers talking at home who took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
“5 minutes in already crying,” said one person.
Another added: “Omg what a start. The power of this drama has begun already.”
“Bloody hell the opening of The Bay was a bit strong wasn’t it,” penned a third viewer.
A fourth wrote: “And we’re off …. What an opener!”
“WOW… What a f*****g brilliant start – welcome back” said someone else.
A sixth agreed: “Already Loving this year’s series.”
As expected, plenty of suspects started to emerge later on in the episode – with Jenn trying to figure out who set fire which killed mum Beth.
Dad Dean was found to have a secret stash of shotgun cartridges, and he also made a rather cryptic statement about his family on the night the fire happened.
“They were not supposed to be there,” he said.
Elsewhere, it was revealed that teenage daughter Izzy had a dodgy boyfriend, and a halfway house for ex-cons was discovered backing onto the Metcalfs’ alleyway.
